Job description

Grade B - £37,694-£45,092 (National Framework) or £42,863-£50,261 (London Framework – if you are London office based or homebased and live within the boundary of the M25).

Contracted Hours: Full time, 37 hours per week with potential for flexible working patterns to support an effective work-life balance.

Contract Type: Permanent

Location: This role is homebased, however we are also able to consider office-based and flexible working arrangements. All of our Homeworkers are kitted out with everything they need to comfortably work from home and there is also an additional homeworking allowance of £529 per annum for those working from home.

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified accountant to work within our dynamic finance team and develop a career within the Public Sector in a role that is key to delivering CQC’s statutory reporting and supporting decision making.

The Financial Accountant leads a small team that is responsible for the production of our statutory accounts, quarterly reporting to the Department of Health and Social Care, fixed asset and lease management, and VAT returns.

You’ll play a lead role in liaising with external audit, produce cash flow forecasts and maintain an accurate fixed asset register.

What you will bring…

You will be a forward thinking qualified accountant with a passion for finance and continuous improvement, who has experience of building effective working relationships, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely.

You will have experience of producing Statutory Accounts to strict deadlines, be confident applying International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and have a good understanding of financial controls.

You will also be confident liaising with internal and external stakeholders, have an ability to work autonomously, lead effectively and support decision making to allow CQC to achieve its Finance strategy.

Accountabilities:

Prepare the Statutory Accounts and quarterly monitoring returns to DHSC in accordance with agreed timetables.
Leads in the preparation of supporting information for Internal and External Audits and associated reviews.
Maintain financial control through the reconciliation of key accounts.
Responsible for the monitoring CQC’s financial statements and providing Statement of Financial Position (SoFP) and cash flow forecasts.
Provide a compliant financial accounting service that promotes best practice through the provision of advice, training and documentation.
Manages performance and development for direct reports, sets clear objectives, conducts regular 121’s, ensuring training plans are in place and recognises achievements.
Demonstrate appropriate leadership behaviours to engender CQC’s values and facilitate an engaged and effective working environment.

Essential Skills and Experience:

Qualified Accountant.
Experience of producing Statutory Accounts – ideally in the public sector.
IFRS experience (desirable).
IT literate and advanced excel skills.
Good analytical and interpretive skills with the ability to communicate those results in clear and understandable terms.
Strong stakeholder management skills.
Strong relationship building skills.
Has experience of systems and process design to ensure operations are fit for purpose.
Experience of D365 (desirable).
