Job description

The Finance Operations Team oversees the key financial processes that underpin the way we operate, including Purchase to Pay (P2P) and Order to Cash (O2C). In line with the Government Finance Function best practice, DIT wants to make these processes as streamlined and user-friendly as possible, while maintaining compliance with internal controls.

The role is part of a small team responsible for overseeing the purchase to pay and order to cash processes.

Job description

In this role you will be expected to undertake the following specific tasks:

  • Administering the end to end processes for purchasing and paying for goods and services
  • Managing customer and supplier set up on Oracle with our shared services provider
  • Performing cash management reconciliations
  • Conducting assurance activity such as: reviewing open Purchase Orders, closing down aged Purchase Orders, invoices on hold, debtor reviews, accruals and KPI reporting
  • Collaborating with teams across the Department and supplier contacts
  • Involvement in internal audits and interim and year-end accounts work and audit requests as required
  • Undertaking other ad-hoc tasks as required, e.g. providing information for Parliamentary Questions and FOI requests where relevant and running and reviewing reports
  • Responding to queries from the business and escalating as appropriate

Hybrid working

The role will be based in either Darlington or London. You will be asked to express a location preference during the application process.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked from within the UK and not overseas.

Informal hybrid working arrangements will be available as agreed with the vacancy manager and in line with the requirements of the role.

Most DIT employees will be working a hybrid pattern, spending 2-3 days a week (pro rata) in an office, on average. If your office location is London, you will be eligible to receive London weighting.

Appointments will be made to candidates in merit order based on location preferences.

Desirable Criteria

  • This role would suit someone who has some finance experience.
  • Ideally, you will have experience of purchase to pay processes and experience of using Oracle.

Personal Attributes & Skills

  • This role would suit someone who is comfortable with detail and processed based work and for people who are considering studying for a finance qualification or considering a long-term career in finance.
  • You will be part of our key controls to ensure that DIT is managing its money properly. This team works closely with the financial accounting team and there is an opportunity to be involved with the year end audit work.
  • You will become a subject matter expert in the purchase to pay process and there is opportunity to be involved in the process improvement work.
