Our client, Milltown Community, is a small, independent and ambitious charity. Their purpose is to enable neurodiverse adults and those with learning challenges to be the best they can be and to live as independently as possible.
They have two residential houses, a day workshop, land for gardens and cultivation, animals, and a small sales outlet for selling products and for welcoming visitors.

Milltown Community are offering a rewarding opportunity for a highly effective Finance Officer to play a crucial role. You will assist them in delivery of excellent customer service outcomes, value for money and continuous improvement in performance.
The role
As a key member of the Leadership team, you will support finance and budgetary management services, ensuring effective financial oversight through thorough, accurate reporting, record-keeping and audit preparation.
What will I be doing?
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Preparation of Monthly and Annual Management Accounts and Board Finance Management Papers
- Analysis of main accounts, journals, review coding and assist/train budget holders in coding
- flexible approach to meet the changing needs of their people, ensuring a commitment to care, mutual help and support on their life journey.
- Milltown Community aResponsibility for monthly reconciliation of all control accounts and review journals
- Supervise and manage the payroll functions, ensuring PAYE and NIC deductions are correct.
- Assist in the preparation of short, medium and long-term financial projections.
- Manage the month end procedures, prepare accruals and prepayments, and reconcile Balance Sheet Accounts noting risks or concerns.
- Assist in the preparation of annual accounts and the Statutory Financial Statement providing working papers and schedules to support external audit and statutory duties
- Treasury support to consultants and/or Leadership Team as required
- Support Milltown Community's tenancy factoring service
Who are we looking for?
Previous experience in an accounting role, qualified or with equivalent professional experience. Ideally, experience within the charity sector and familiarity with Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP).
In addition our client is looking for you to be:
- A self-starter who is able to design and implement work practices and procedures
- Driven and committed to deliver accurate financial reports within agreed timescales
- Able to build positive working relationships
- A team player who communicates effectively with both colleagues and with the wider community
- Able to plan, prioritise and multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Able to prepare high quality written work and other communication materials including spreadsheets and presentations
- Knowledgeable and experienced in accounting software (ideally Xero), and a have high standard of computer literacy.
