Job description

Wincanton is looking for a commercially oriented Finance Manager responsible for the Public sector, working with customers in the civil service. The Finance Manager will guide the senior team internally with decision making, financial judgement, planning, and strategy, and the customer in providing insight, analysis, and suggesting and implementing improvements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Management of one direct report who oversees the functional reporting to the site GM and prepares weekly reports to the customer
  • Track the sector’s financial status and performance to identify and action on areas of potential improvement
  • Management of financial control requirements and applying judgement where appropriate, escalating to the Commercial Finance Manager where required
  • Overseeing weekly customer report creation and leading customer meetings
  • Lead finance support for customer and point of contact for queries on costing
  • Build a rapport, develop trust with the customer and colleagues
  • Budget and forecast creation and collation, including model creation, assumptions analysis, headcount, and considering how Wincanton can drive growth while maintaining value for money for the customer
  • Contractual review and requirements, proposing negotiation points internally and externally discussing commercial points
  • Managing and reviewing Change Requests which come through with external customers
  • Period close support and sign off

Qualifications/requirements

  • Part or fully qualified in ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent professional accounting qualification
  • Several years’ experience in a related finance role
  • Excellent mathematical and modelling skills, including Excel
  • Ability to question, challenge, and propose new solutions based on data analysis
  • Demonstrate drive, energy and a commitment to the CI of overall contract performance
  • Attention to detail and ability to review others’ work
  • Experience in Oracle is a benefit but not a requirement
