Job description
The Department of Physics has an exciting opportunity for an outstanding Finance Manager to join its Senior Leadership Team, at a key milestone in its history; the completion of and migration to the newly built, state of the art facility, the Ray Dolby Centre, which is scheduled for completion at the end of 2023, and anticipated occupancy taking place in early 2024. This will be an excellent opportunity for a strong team player, looking to utilise their skills, by actively participating in the leadership and development of finance teams and processes, as we undertake a period of operational change.
The Department is large and complex, with over 1100 staff, postgraduate students and visitors, with a further 900 undergraduate students, and multiple ledgers to manage its wide and diverse portfolio of research activity, totalling circa £160m of grant income. In addition to this grant income, the Department holds £93m of funds, including £73m of Trust funds. This key post leads and develops a dedicated finance team, ensuring processes and systems are effective, across all areas of finance operations, with initial prioritisation being on the transformation of outdated and inefficient ways of working.
You will be technically skilled across all areas of finance, but crucially, have the ability to effectively and confidently communicate complex data to staff at all levels, including the Department's Senior Committees. You will actively participate as a member of a busy professional, operations team, to ensure success. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of effective team leadership and development, and proven ability to adapt effectively to changing priorities, that a fast-paced environment like the Department of Physics, often requires of its operational staff.
Interviews will be held Wednesday 3rd May.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic disclosure (criminal records check) check, a health assessment and a security check.
