The Divisional Finance Manager position is dual facing role supporting the Estates & Facilities Divisional operational teams as well as managing the Corporate & Estates Finance Team and contributing to the effective running of the Financial Management Department.
The Estates & Facilities department has an annual expenditure budget of £100m and an external income target of £10m. The service employs around 1600 staff (WTE) across 3 sites and a number of disciplines.

The successful candidate will be a CCAB qualified accountant with 3-5 years of post-qualification experience and with a demonstrable record of working in a varied and fast paced environment. The Divisional Finance Manager position would ideally suit someone with NHS experience looking to progress to the next level or someone from the private sector looking to make a transition in to the NHS. Previous post holders have gone on to make a transition in to operational roles and some up to General Manager level. Others have progressed to Assistant Directors of Finance.
The post will mostly be based at the City Campus but the successful candidate will be expected to travel where necessary to other sites (Mainly the QMC Campus) to attend meetings. Currently we are operating a hybrid working model combining at home and on site working, but it is important to note that this role does require some some on site presence and face to face meetings. In the near future we will transition back to more on site working.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Estates and Facilities department is diverse and no two days are ever the same. The Divisional Finance Manager will be expected to build effective relationships with a wide scope of Operational Managers and Healthcare Professionals to understand the intricacies of their different operating models and provide support. The role can expect to include a wide breadth of activities including, but not limited to:
Performance reporting and delivering effective challenge where necessary
Service developments and commissioning of services
Supporting the development of investment business cases for significant developments
Completion of Statutory data collection returns
Supporting the Senior Management Team at Exec Performance
Meeting with the operational team to guide them through their financial performance
Supporting the development and reporting of the Financial Efficiency Programme
Leading and managing the Corporate & Estates Finance Team
Developing and influencing the process and practices of the wider Financial
Management Department

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Possess a professional accounting qualification e.g. ACA, ACCA, CIMA or CIPFA.
- Demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development.
Post Qualified Experience
Essential criteria
- A minimum 3 years’ experience working within a busy Financial Management environment.
- Experience of working with computerised financial systems.
- Involved in reference costing; validation and collation of information to support robust annual submission
- Knowledge of the workings of the NHS finance and business planning regimes.
- Proven experience of staff management and working practices in a modern finance function
- Understanding of standard accounting and auditing practice and financial reporting standards
