We are looking for a Finance Manager (Management Accountants) to join Cancer Research UK, to own and deliver timely management accounts for our Marketing, Fundraising and Engagement business area.
This is an exciting opportunity as you will be working within an area that provides our largest income stream. You will bring with you strong experience of relevant management and financial accounting processes and controls including an awareness of annual budget and forecasting cycles. Further to this you will demonstrate your ability to lead, coach and motivate a team of management accountants.
This is a great opportunity for a finance professional with great stakeholder management and influencing skills. You might be a Finance Manager or Finance Business Partner already looking to gain experience in the not-for-profit sector. Cancer Research UK is a large, complex organisation, with nearly 600 shops, an events team delivering 570 events a year, a large operational organisation of around 4,000 people, and a research organisation with five labourites, so there are lots of opportunities to progress and gain experience within various areas of finance, working across a variety of business areas.
In a supportive working environment, you’ll discover something new every day, whether it’s a new connection, a new method of engagement or a talent you never knew you had. You’ll also be surrounded by people who are as dedicated to beating cancer as you are.
What will I be doing?

- Take ownership for a range of accounting adjustments as required (including stock, fixed assets or investments)
- Be a key finance point of contact for your specified areas, ensuring appropriate financial controls are being adhered to, challenging and offering solutions to stakeholders as appropriate
- Support the year end audit and production of the annual report and accounts, ensuring accuracy and supporting specific notes to the accounts and audit queries as required.
- Support the financial planning process, for example building budgeting/forecasting tools and templates, ensuring budget holders are appropriately trained and take responsibility for plans
- Line management and development of other management accountants within your team
What Skills will I need:
- Qualified accountant (or by experience) with post-qualification experience
- Experience of relevant management and financial accounting processes and controls including an awareness of annual budget and forecasting cycles
- Experience of building, managing and evolving business partnering relationships at senior management level.
- Ability to manage, coach and develop a team.
- Demonstrates an analytical approach to problem solving a broad range of challenges
- Delivers on complex assignments often involving ambiguity, can set and meet deadlines while maintaining strong attention to detail and effectively managing expectations
- Innovate, take a step back and question what you and the wider team are doing, strive for continuous improvement in processes, approach and outputs
- Ability to clearly present and explain financial information, identifying the key themes to provide insight and tell ‘the story’.
- Ability to influence a range of stakeholders, including Directors and Heads to deliver strong financial controls
What will I gain?

In return, we make sure you are supported by a generous benefits package, a wide range of career and personal development opportunities and high-quality tools, policies and processes to enable you to do your job well.
Our benefits package includes a substantial retirement plan, a generous and flexible leave allowance, discounts on anything from travel to technology, gym membership, and much more.
