The Role & Responsibilities
- The Finance Insights Developer position will be responsible for the delivery of finance projects within the BI suite for Finance.
- As part of the Finance Insights team there will be a multitude of projects with several key initiatives using Cognos BI which will provide finance new reporting solutions and insights from data.
- The Cognos BI developer will work with the Finance Insights leadership team to deliver reporting solutions from business requirements in an agile manner.
- The Cognos BI developer will also work with data architecture teams to facilitate the consumption of data in the most optimal way.
- There will be a drive for innovation to implement best practices but also support in the longer-term architecture of the platform.
- The individual will have a strong learning curve and will demonstrate the ability to apply learned techniques, knowledge and expertise to new business situations and in different business environments.
- High levels of technical and professional expertise are required in order to provide guidance and advice on specialized matters.
- The individual will have to be technically astute and be aware of changes and advances in technology available to ensure that the technological boundaries are constantly being expanded to the benefit of the users.
The Person
- Cognos BI suite of applications (Extensive experience for v10.x and above)
- Experience of Power BI, Tableau, Qlik Sense or similar BI tools an advantage
- Extensive experience using Report Studio reporting via MDX / SQL
- Use of advanced feature such as bursting, report studio, query studio, active reports, mobile reporting and data modules
- Extensive knowledge of dimensional modelling (ideally TM1 / Powerplay or similar)
- Experience using Framework Manager for relational and dimensional package creation.
- Excellent SQL knowledge being able to perform complex SQL for querying data.
- Good UI / UX skills to develop optimal reporting solution for users.
- Performance tunings and maintenance knowledge of Cognos BI
- Exposure of TM1 (v 10.x and above) an advantage
- Exposure to Cognos Cloud products an advantage
- Excellent analytical skills and a pro-active approach to problem solving.
- Working in Agile in a team collaborative environment
- Good understanding of financial principles
- Ambitious, driven and enthusiastic.
- Ability to work analytically to solve both tactical and strategic problems simultaneously.
- Proactively start, manage and co-ordinate own work with minimum supervision
- Proactively leverages the knowledge and expertise of other developers.
- Applies learned techniques, knowledge and expertise to new business situations and business environments.
- Support and train users when required.
