About us and the role
We are looking for a Graduate Finance Intern to join our Centralised Finance Team supporting schools within the Trust. The role will be based in London and support further development of the finance team by delivering first-class management information, plans & forecasts and may involve travelling between Avanti schools across the Trust.
Graduate Trainees can expect to gain both operational and project experience during their placement. It is intended that during the course of the placement, trainees will develop the skills and experience necessary to apply for a permanent position internally or externally.
The ideal candidates will be bright, personable, self-starters with the drive to deliver excellence in Finance and support the finance team in achieving its mission. You will be dealing with a wide variety of people at all levels, so you must be an effective communicator, with strong interpersonal skills. The ability to prioritise a busy workload is essential, as is the need to meet deadlines of varying timescales. You will be prepared to work flexibly, independently, sometimes under pressure, and always with a ‘can and will do’ attitude.
You will need to demonstrate that you have a good working knowledge and level of competence in using Excel and Word coupled with great attention to detail and high standards of accuracy.
You don’t need to have worked in a school environment before but a passion for helping improve the education of our students through providing high-quality finance support is desirable.
There is flexibility regarding the working hours, patterns during the week and weeks in the year for suitable candidate.
This is a full-time office based role.

What will you do?
- Processing of invoices, checking to Purchase Orders and goods received notes, ensuring appropriate authorisation and payment in accordance with agreed procedures and timescales
- Assist in controlling and forecasting expenditure and ensuring spending is kept in line with the budget.
- Recording of credit card transactions, assistance to staff using the credit card, reconciliation of statement
- Provide assistance to the Central Finance Team

What are we looking for?
- Hold or be studying for a finance / business related qualification min 2:1
- Work experience within a finance function or similar
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing across a wide range of audiences
