Job description
LGC ASSURE is a business unit within LGC Group, bound together by the core purpose of “Science for a Safer World”. Our mission within LGC Assure is to provide intelligent assurance for our customers and their supply network, primarily in the global food and beverage sector. We achieve this through three primary product and service offerings: certification and standards, digital and data, and testing and science-based services.
Our core products in the food and beverage sector comprise:
BRCGS: Protecting brands with globally recognised supply chain assurance solutions, based in London – UK and Milton – Canada.
INFORMED: Delivering quality assurance through globally trusted testing and certification programs for banned substances, based in Cambridge – UK and Lexington – US.
Safefood360: A leading software provider covering all aspects of compliance, delivered by a team of experienced food industry experts based in Dublin – Ireland.
This role is working with the LGC Assure Finance team supported by the LGC Business Analytics team and presents a fantastic opportunity for finance and analytics professional to support senior stakeholders and drive key insights from our data to support decision making. Working as part of the Finance team, the role will provide the successful candidate with a challenging and rewarding working environment with room for personal development and growth through effective partnering to showcase and promote best practices in data analysis and the use of LGCs analytical resources.
The Finance Data and Reporting Analyst will balance multiple - and at times rapidly evolving - stakeholder requirements, ensuring that all outputs are high-quality and repeatable whilst contributing to best practices across the Business Analytics team; from data source development to output reporting, reference documentation and consideration and compliance with data governance policies.
This role is a hybrid position and can be based from either Bury, Greater Manchester or Victoria, London.
- Ownership of the accuracy and availability of key reports and partnering with business users to understand the content and context.
- Development of new reports and dashboards to support business users.
- Preparing bespoke financial analysis and reporting on business performance using financial and non-financial data.
- Testing and validating data sources, providing recommendations and improving these data sources, and translating change request from business users into technical requests.
- Apply automation techniques to existing analysis and reports to remove as far as possible any manual steps in providing these to the end users.
- Work with data management teams and data owners across the business to support data quality improvement initiatives – through an understanding of source system processes and data flows and provision of clearly presented analysis and reports highlighting inaccuracies.
- Document processes and guidance notes on reports and reporting tools to support self-service analytics.
The role will suit an analytically strong, motivated practitioner with a foundation in finance and a recent experience in an analytically focused business data analysis and reporting role.
A good understanding and willingness to learn more about analytical and reporting tools will be essential to fulfilling the potential of this role. High competency in Excel, Power BI and Tableau (or equivalent) with an awareness of SQL is a must, and experience of any other data extraction, manipulation and reporting tools will be useful as a starting point to unlocking the potential of our data. Due to the heavy focus on finance related data, primarily sourced from ERP (IFS), this role is suited to a qualified accountant who has a passion and experience with data analysis.
- Tableau or Power BI (or similar) reporting and dashboard creation.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including Data Query and Data Model Pivots.
- Ability to write basic SQL queries to extract data for analysis.
- Professional accounting qualification
- A relevant degree qualification (or equivalent)
- Experience with user requirements gathering and documentation.
- Experience providing written and verbal guidance to users of reporting tools and reports.
- Experience in a commercial or financial analytics role.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an appreciation of data integrity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong business acumen with a commercial mind-set; sound financial awareness and a track record of producing high quality analysis and meeting deadlines.
