What we are looking for:

We have an immediate need for a Finance Assistant to join our experienced Finance team, supporting the Finance Controller to deliver accurate and timely financial administration and purchase ledger duties to support business growth for our airport.

Snapshot of the role:

Corporate

  • To ensure that the Finance Team is supported in delivering the overall team objectives.
  • To represent the airport with all key stakeholders in order to establish and maintain an outstanding reputation for the highest possible standards in all aspects of the department.

Sales Ledger

  • Work with other departments as required, ensuring information required to facilitate ad-hoc billing is obtained in a timely manner.
  • Process ad-hoc invoices, ensuring correct charges are applied and invoices issued in a timely manner.
  • Issue statements via email on a regular basis, and actively contact debtors to ensure payments are received within agreed terms.

Purchase Ledger

  • Process supplier invoices, ensuring correct VAT treatment and that invoices are fully approved in accordance with the delegated authority matrix.
  • Liaise with department managers and suppliers to resolve account and invoice queries.
  • Reconcile and allocate direct debit accounts, resolving any queries and missing invoices.
  • Reconcile Supplier statements.
  • Process pro-Forma invoices in accordance with procedures and follow up with suppliers to ensure VAT invoice received promptly.
  • Creation of BACS payment runs and ad-hoc payments.
  • Regular review of aged creditors and pro-actively resolve any associated queries.

Bank / Cash

  • Post and reconcile daily bank statements ensuring accuracy of postings and correct VAT treatment.

General

  • Ensure VAT codes are correctly applied to sales and purchase invoices and all VAT procedures are followed in accordance with HMRC guidelines.
  • Ensure all internal controls/audit procedures are correctly applied in accordance with LBA policies and procedures.
  • Provide assistance in the preparation for the annual audit.
  • Provide support for general business administration tasks – filing, mail handling, dealing with general queries.
  • Liaise and deal with queries from aircraft operators, concessionaires and business partners.
  • Work towards maximising use of the finance software functionality. Pro-actively identify potential areas for improvement or efficiency savings.

What we would need from you:

This is an office-based role where you would be responsible for managing predominately paper based, manual processes and therefore you will need excellent attention to detail. The plan is to move these processes to become more system based within the next 12 months, offering some development opportunities in return.

Other key skills needed are:

  • A good standard of high school/college education, including Maths and English
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office software
  • Experience or an understanding of a purchase ledger type role
  • Organisation Skills
  • Confidentiality

Even better, if you have knowledge of accounting systems and transactional accounting, but training can be provided in these areas.
