Position Overview:
Happy Building are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Finance Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have at least 3 years of working experience within accounts, including experience within an SME (Small and Medium-sized Enterprise). They must possess a strong understanding of financial processes and procedures, with a focus on accounts payable and receivable. The Finance Assistant will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting activities, and ensuring the smooth operation of our finance department. Proficiency in Xero software, advanced Excel and Word skills, and the ability to adapt to new systems and software are essential. Being part qualified with recognized UK accounting qualifications, such as ACCA or CIMA, is desirable. A qualified book keeper with AAT qualifications would be considered providing they had involvement in management accounts prepertaions. Experience with VAT and payroll processing is highly desirable.
The Finance Assistant will report directly to the Head of Finance, Legal, and HR.
Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate financial records and update financial systems regularly.
Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, including invoice processing, payments, and customer/vendor account reconciliations.
Assist with the preparation of financial statements, reports, and budgets.
Reconcile bank statements, credit card statements, and other financial documents.
Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
Monitor and analyze financial data to identify discrepancies and resolve issues.
Prepare and submit VAT returns and other statutory filings as required.
Participate in legal contracts and HR matters, providing financial insights and support.
Order procurement for the office, ensuring adherence to budgetary guidelines and policies.
Utilize Dext software for documentation and communication purposes.
Post payroll journals and ensure accurate recording of payroll-related transactions.
Demonstrate a strong understanding of debits and credits in financial transactions.
Support the Head of Finance, Legal, and HR in financial analysis and forecasting activities.
Collaborate with other departments to gather financial information and ensure accuracy in reporting.
Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive financial information with integrity.
Stay updated on UK accounting regulations, industry best practices, and accounting standards.
Provide administrative support to the finance department as needed.
Requirements:
Minimum of 3 years of working experience within accounts, preferably within an SME.
Strong understanding of financial processes, principles, and procedures, with a focus on accounts payable and receivable.
Proficiency in using Xero software is a must. Please do not apply if you have not used Xero to an expert level.
Strong knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word, with advanced skills in data manipulation, formulae, and formatting.
Demonstrated ability to adapt quickly to new systems and software.
Part-qualified with recognized UK accounting qualifications (e.g., ACCA, CIMA) is desirable.
Experience with VAT and payroll processing is highly desirable.
Must reside within 45 minutes commuting distance of the office.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in numerical data.
