As a Rexel Apprentice you will be working in a varied and challenging role, you will be trained in all procedures required, which will give you a fantastic grounding for your future career.
You will be working within the Management Accounts Team to support the work of the operational finance function specifically areas of margin and operational expenditure in terms of variance analysis, making relevant month-end postings, balance sheet reconciliations, and reporting to team leads on key cost drivers. The Apprenticeship offered is Accounts/Finance Assistant Level 2.
Role: As a Finance Assistant Apprentice for Rexel/Denmans, your main responsibilities will be to:
- Take ownership of month end postings in operational costs and margin to deliver regional and UK results and be responsible for accuracy of reported costs incurred in the period.
- Organise key areas of the business in receiving supporting evidence for month end accruals, challenge key stakeholders including business areas and suppliers on validity in areas of Operational and margin costs.
- With the support of the team manager, liaise with the wider business to proactively identify risks and opportunities within the budget and monthly result.
- Support accurate variance analysis against budget and monthly trends to middle and senior management to support the monthly result.
- Challenge and investigate variances against budget; reach out to the business to understand progress of cost initiatives or changes in business needs and communicate to management.
- Ownership of a regional review ensuring allocations have been completed accurately and monthly result is supported and explainable.
- Being a point of contact for operational controllers to deliver regional results of one of the regions.
- Accurate completion of allocated balance sheet reconciliations within the time frame allocated, including documentation of supporting documentation.
- Provide ad hoc support to the management accounts team to ensure accurate and robust reporting across the whole of the P+L.
- Responsible for making postings into the accounting general ledger after review of transactions including the ability to identify accruals and prepayments.
- Maintain the integrity of the General Ledger, whilst ensuring compliance in accordance with UKGAAP and Rexel group policies.
- Completion of cost centre queries and ensure adequate information and support is provided to our branch managers.
- Ensure that all process documentation is robust and up to date.
The Person:
- Competent user of Microsoft Office products, particularly MS Excel
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a team environment to deliver results.
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Ability to produce financial/statistical data.
- Flexible and responsive to meet changing business demands.
Experience:
- Ideally 1 years’ experience in a similar role desirable
- Experience of working in a dynamic and fast-paced environment desirable.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to produce and analyse financial/statistical data.
- Evidence of a proactive approach with stakeholders and provide clear and appropriate communication.
- Ability to look at the bigger picture and understand the wider implications of decisions / actions.
- Experience in identifying unusual transactions (desirable)
