Location: Bangor, North Wales (based within the North Wales Wildlife Trust office)
Project Seagrass is an environmental charity devoted to the conservation of seagrass ecosystems through community, research and action. Our mission is to lead societal change to enable the recognition, recovery and resilience of seagrass ecosystems globally; that provide biodiversity, equitable and sustainable livelihoods and planetary life support.
Project Seagrass is the lead delivery partner in the UK’s biggest seagrass restoration project (Seagrass Ocean Rescue (North Wales)), in partnership with WWF. UK, North
Wales Wildlife Trust, Swansea University and the Penllyn A’r Sarnau SAC.
This fixed-term fieldwork assistant position will be physically based within the North
Wales Wildlife Trust office in Bangor, to support the on-the-ground delivery of this major project and to improve connectedness between the project partners. This position will require an outgoing individual with a passion for the marine environment
Introduction and the energy, enthusiasm, and initiative to help make the Seagrass Ocean Rescue
(North Wales) project a success.
The successful candidate will play a key role in a variety of marine ecological activities associated with seagrass restoration, supporting and leading outreach and education activities with volunteers and identifying opportunities for engagement with a diverse range of stakeholders. The individual will be solutions driven with the ability to organise complex field logistics, and have a passion for engagement and communication, presenting a friendly Project Seagrass face to all volunteers and partners. The successful candidate will be comfortable working long hours on fieldwork regularly throughout the year along with assisting with routine laboratory and aquaria tasks. With good data management, analysis and basic report writing skills, they will work professionally to support the wider Project Seagrass and Seagrass
Ocean Rescue teams and aligned research projects. The preferred candidate would benefit from having Welsh language skills.

To support fieldwork and engagement operations in North Wales the successful individual will:
1. Work closely with the Project Seagrass North Wales restoration lead to provide logistical and marine biological support for North Wales marine field operations including intertidal, snorkelling, boat-based and diving work.
2. Provide support to ongoing community engagement and outreach activities in
North Wales.
3. Be a fulltime ‘on the ground’ representative for Project Seagrass within the
Seagrass Ocean Rescue Project.
4. Be an enthusiastic, engaging and inspiring role model to volunteers assisting the
Seagrass Ocean Rescue project.
5. Be resilient to working outside in all weathers and all times of the year.
6. Be willing to arrange their working hours with flexibility around the large spring

Wales are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner.
8. Integrate working between Project Seagrass, North Wales Wildlife Trust, Pen Llyn a’r Sarnau SAC Team and Swansea University.
9. Take a lead in undertaking seagrass monitoring and assessment work in North
Wales and assist with mapping work where required.
10. Actively participate in Project Seagrass safety awareness initiatives.
11. Act as mentor to Project Seagrass interns and assist where required with volunteer and engagement activities.
12. Proactively carry out the activities of the job.
13. Be responsible for meeting agreed objectives.
14. Adapt to changes in work practices and job activities in line with the developing needs of Project Seagrass.
15. Seek out learning opportunities and transfer new skills and knowledge to the job.

Person Essential criteria:
Specification 1. BSc in Marine Biology or similar
2. Experience of marine and coastal fieldwork.
3. Experience with environmental outreach activities.

4. Excellent organisational and time management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines.
5. A commitment to continuous professional development.
6. Current UK driving licence
7. A willingness to spend extended time in the field and where required, work weekends and unsociable hours.
8. A willingness to be located in (or relocate) to the Bangor area, Gwynedd
Desirable Criteria
9. Welsh language skills.
10. Holding a PADI Divemaster qualification (or equivalent CMAS 3* HSE-approved qualification).
11. Experience of UK scientific diving.
12. Experience of working with seagrass.
13. Knowledge of water quality and/or blue carbon.
14. Experience with marine monitoring or mapping work.
15. Experience of professional boat driving with an RYA Commercially Endorsed
Advanced Powerboat Operator qualification.
16. Experience of supporting/supervising undergraduate or postgraduate student projects.
