As a member of the Field Support team, the Field Support Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the ongoing operation of the IT infrastructure across a region of GLL’s Leisure estate, ensuring that hardware, networks and associated equipment is maintained appropriately. The Field Support Engineer will be the person who links with our front-end colleagues providing a support service setting high standards of work to ensure that the reputation of the IT team is second to none.
The Field Support Engineer is a key member of staff you will ensure that you operate with a ‘can do’ attitude putting our external and internal customers at the forefront of your actions.
This is an exciting time as the IT team helps the business move its digital and IT platforms on to the next level over the coming years. You will be pivotal to making the change happen physically via the Field Support team in library facilities across the UK. You will be stretched and need to strive to exceed the expectations of the business.
What you need:
- The ability to quickly learn and successfully cross train in new technologies.
- The ability to have a flexible approach to developing ideas and solutions, using the appropriate tools for the job.
- The ability to produce results to demanding deadlines and work on a number of key issues simultaneously.
- The ability to work in a team and aim to achieve the common goals of IT.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and documentation
- Excellent knowledge of PC hardware and network configuration, maintenance and support.
- Good knowledge of Microsoft software and associated products.
- Proven track record and previous experience of maintaining, improving and supporting modern, best of breed products.
- Experience of Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Office, Remote Desktop Services (RDS), Thin Clients and Cisco networking.

What you’ll do:
- Resolving problems with the IT hardware - passed to the team from first line support.
- Responding to requests for service passed from first line support or the Field Support Team Leader.
- Field project work relating to new equipment Mobilisations, Hardware Refreshes and new Contract/Building Installations and Upgrades.
- Raising orders with our approved suppliers, receiving deliveries and keeping the asset database up to date.
- Maintaining and production of concise, accurate and up to date technical documentation.
- Maintain the security and integrity of sensitive data.
- Keep abreast of trends and developments within the IT and libraries marketplace.
- Discuss own training and development needs with the Head of Skills Development.
- Maintain existing professional qualifications and gain additional qualifications as necessary to ensure effective performance in role.
