Fibre Engineer - Cabling Engineer - Telecoms Technician
Key focus:
As a Fibre Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to perform fibre cabling activities to ensure the requirements are met in a timely and effective manner, whist ensuring site safety at all times.
Responsibilities:
- Travel to sites to pull fibre optic cables through the ducts to connect the network components together
- Overhead & underground cabling of fibre networks in line with the provided design
- Install overhead equipment, either with hoist or via ladders
- Identify and report blockages
- Drill holes and use of power tools
- Pull and install fibre optic cables and subduct when required
- Work in a way that disruption to the public is minimised
- Use every opportunity to show Future Networx as a considerate organisation so the company reputation is enhanced
- Respect, follow and fully comply with all health & safety rules, procedures and policies
- Conduct site risk assessments
- Provide feedback on issues to the Field Supervisor
- Work with the supervisor and the build team to come up with solutions on any issues that arise
- Strive to achieve personal, team and company objectives and complete tasks in a timely and accurate manner
- Train and mentor junior employees on any cabling-related matters
- Any other duties that may reasonably be required of you
Requirements:
- Experience in telecoms cable pulling
- PON build experience on the BT/Openreach required
- Full UK driving licence (max 6 points)
- Basic DBS check is required
- Must hold the correct accreditations for UG & OH cabling on the Openreach Network (required)
- PIA accreditations and confined spaces preferred
- Must have a Smart Awards card (NOPS)
- Hold a valid IPAF for hoist work (preferred)
- Ability to complete A55’s and B2B electronically on a laptop or tablet
- NRSWA (unit 2 required)
- Good communication skills
- Can-do attitude, positive and open minded to changes and process enhancements
- Detail oriented, analytical with a general ability to learn and use a variety of software/systems
- The nature of the job is largely physical as per the above description, therefore a good level of fitness is required to perform the job
About the role:
- Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm with 1 hour of lunchbreak
- Possibility for overtime
- Some night shifts may be required
