Metal (Iron) Estimator
A Leading Fencing and Ornamental Iron Contractor is seeking a Construction Estimator based out of its San Jose headquarters. This position will focus on producing accurate estimates, interpreting various construction documents, and building customer relationships within the Ornamental metals side of our business.
Responsibilities:
- Ability to read construction plan sets
- Perform material take-offs on new projects and change orders on existing contracts
- Understand project information, which include drawings, specifications, and other bid documents
- Assist and review drawings with the internal team and highlight areas of concern
- Review project guidelines and select necessary products
- Create, propose and produce estimates for various jobs and address all inquiries pertaining to bids
- Able to plan, prioritize, organize, and monitor all aspects of quoting activity
- Develop other work order essential data including quantity discounts, material price lists, labor costs per man hour, and equipment to ensure accurate estimates and bids
- Develop new customer and vendor relationships while simultaneously maintaining current relationships
- Make proper cost estimations while taking into consideration factors such as materials, speeds, type of cutters, feeds and control system limitations
- Communicate with trade partners and team members regarding new and current projects
- Prepare estimates and purchase for all products
- Understand scope of work to bid and manage bid pricing from all vendors
- Prepare cost analysis
- Conduct site visits up to 20% of the time
- Establish and maintain working relationships with vendors and subcontractors
- Propose RFI’s to current and potential suppliers
- Will report to Director and Division Manager
Requirements:
- Experience working with metal and ornamental iron
- 2+ years in construction estimating and shop drawing
- Knowledge of estimating software such as Solidworks and Procore
- Must be able to comprehend and analyze prints and specifications
- Attention to detail to perform takeoffs
- Must be competent in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.)
- Clean DMV record
Desired skillset:
- Knowledge of precision metal fabrication and machining is highly desirable
- 2+ years in construction estimating (preferred)
- Self-initiated
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Able to work independently without much supervision and work well with a team
- Strong ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
