Family Support Worker - Invisible Walls

Salary £10.75 per hour
Permanent, Part Time (24 hours per week)
G4S Care & Rehabilitation Services (CaRS) successfully manages five prisons, one secure training centre and a number of community contracts in England and Wales. The philosophy of our business is to rehabilitate offenders and equip them with the skills needed to re-integrate back into society. Our aim is to create an environment in which our staff and our service user feel safe.
We are looking for an experienced Family Support Worker to join our energetic and proactive team to assist with supporting prisoners, their children and families on a range of issues.
The successful candidate will deliver high quality family support services by using the dedicated helplines, play area and other areas within the department, to reduce re-offending by developing and strengthening positive family ties.
Some of the key responsibilities are;
- Deliver high quality support to prisoners and their families through our family helpline/email and meet and greet services.
- Provide 1-2-1 support to prisoners and families on family related matters where required.
- Work in collaboration with volunteers and student placements.
- Make appropriate referrals to other relevant agencies or organisations. (internal and external)
- Establishing and sustaining communication links between prisoners and their families / relatives whilst they are in custody following the correct processes.
- Informing families of prison based family/visits events as appropriate.
- Ensure accurate sharing of information between the secure environment and prisoners families.
- Delivery of family enrichment activity as required.
- Supporting children and families whilst on a visit - from the visitor centre, through to the hall and associated areas such as the play area.
- Support the cafe services for visitors in the hall.
- Undergo training as deemed appropriate to the position.
- Assist in daily, weekly and monthly collation of all relevant data for monthly monitoring / reports.
- Communicate professionally at all times with visitors and internal departments/external agencies.
- To establish good relationships and lines of communication with internal departments such as security, resettlement, OMU, Chaplaincy, Probation, IMB.
- Assist in the promotion of creating a positive Health and Safety culture across the site leading by example, this includes reporting accidents and near misses in a timely manner and following the applicable safe systems of work for the role.

Desirable Skills
- Relevant vocational / voluntary / life experience
- Ability to use Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Google Email and Calendar.
- Previous experience working within a custodial environment
