Job description

Join the Kernow Young Carers Team for our Summer and Autumn terms and East Cornwall provision

Fixed term until 8/12/23

Throughout the Summer and Autumn season we focus on activities and residentials to provide a much needed break from the caring role and the chance to learn from other young carers. We are truly excited to have the opportunity to recruit someone for this period to support us to reduce the impact of the caring role for young carers in Cornwall. If this opportunity speaks to you, we would love to hear from you.

Do you understand the impact of having a high level of responsibilities at home can have on children?

Could you support children to recognise what their caring role has contributed to their resilience, skill and social value?

Would you like to support children to have a break from their caring role to nourish their sense of self and raise their aspirations?

Can you work closely with a team who rely on each other to deliver provision to young carers?

  • We welcome transferable skills and personal experience for this role
  • No formal qualifications are required, full training, ongoing supervision, support from the team and wider Cornwall Carers Service Network is at the heart of our success
  • We work in a hybrid way, the team meets twice a month face to face in Redruth, alongside supervisions and professionals meetings
  • A large amount of your 1-1 support will be conducted in school setting
  • We have a TOIL system for any out of office hours work, typically utilised for activities and residentials
  • It is desirable to have a driving license due to the need to travel throughout the East of the County and other areas as and when needed
  • Knowledge of safeguarding is advantageous
  • IT literacy and experience of recording using a CRM database is advantageous
  • Experience of working within a team to achieve outcomes and share practice is desirable
  • Experience of lone working and managing your own caseload and diary is desirable

At Kernow Young Carers, we pride ourselves on supporting a work life balance and working flexibly. If you feel this role is right for you and you could offer something different to the terms advertised, please get in touch. We know we are working with people, not computers, and we would love to hear from you. This position is important to us and the right candidate will have the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of children who have caring responsibilities.

For an informal chat about the role, please contact the Co Ordinator for Kernow young carers, Lea Hill on 07394403649 or [email protected]
