Purpose
The prime role of the Family Solicitor is to advise on a wide variety of Family and Children law matters including both private and public, and to assist in building the Family Law portfolio.
You will also provide advocacy in court proceedings and ensure clients receive a professional service throughout.
You will be provided with secretarial support but are expected to use a high degree of self-management and initiative, whilst communicating effectively with partners, colleagues, and clients.
Person Specification and requirements
- Experience in advising on a variety of Family matters
- Strong time-management and ability to manage own caseload
- Advocacy experience is desirable but not essential
- Knowledge and experience of Legal Aid
- Genuine passion for family law
- Commercially minded
- Personable and confident/articulate communicator
- Pro-active and ‘can do’ attitude
- Own referral source would be advantageous
- Panel membership or working towards would be advantageous
- Knowledge and experience of Lexcel Compliance would be advantageous
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for the effective management and advisory service of all aspects of allocated Family and Children Law cases, including but not limited to:
Private and public matters
Divorce and matrimonial
Domestic abuse
Non-molestation
- Providing advice and guidance to other members of staff within the Family Department
- Drafting legal documents and various court applications
- Advocacy
- Undertake any specific training when required and to have overall responsibility towards self-development
- Legal Aid work
- Be actively involved in ensuring compliance in Lexcel and other standards
- Ensure the confidentiality of all the firm’s and client’s documentation and information
- Be actively involved in marketing and business development activities and networking
- Undertake any other duties as required by the Directors as necessary for other fee earners and members of staff
