ABOUT THE ROLE
As a Family Service Manager, you will responsible for managing a Visitors Centre and Family Services, within HMP Altcourse. You will lead a small, high calibre team who will deliver pioneering programmatic work, and manage the day to day running of the Visitor’s Centre which will provide support services for family members visiting the prison and engaging in activities.
You will be responsible for delivering the highest standards of service quality, performance, and improvements across the service through excellent leadership and embodiment of the values of Social Interest Group and Safe Ground. You will create a welcoming, comfortable and conductive environment which is meaningful, to support ground breaking person centred family interventions. You will also be responsible for developing collaborative relationships with key partners including prison staff, and community partners.
ABOUT SAFE GROUND
Safe Ground is an award-winning arts organisation expert in the design and delivery of therapeutic group work programmes. Our work focuses on relationships and identity and uses group work, arts, and drama techniques to support participants to experience alternative perspectives. We have over 25 years’ experience creating spaces in secure and community settings within which transformational change can occur. In November 2022, we became part of the Social Interest Group.

ABOUT YOU
We are looking for an effective leader who thrives on team work. OVERVIEW OF KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure the service operates and delivers to the standards of Safe Ground, Social Interest Group and other relevant stakeholders.
- Establish and maintain high quality programmes and activities as the core curriculum at the prison and visitors centre.
- Manage the full operational day to day delivery of the service.
- Develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external persons and agencies. Such as families, community partners, care providers, specialist units, prison staff, and training providers.
- Liaise with relevant teams and stakeholders to create and monitor strategic plans with a short to long term vision.
- Be an active team member, being involved in support sessions and other activities.
Management
- Provide high quality support and line management to staff, offer guidance, support and advice to the team.
- Responsible for managing the full employee lifecycle, including; Recruitment, Onboarding, Inductions, Probation Reviews, Performance Management, KPI Management, Employee Relations, Staff Wellbeing, Grievances, Sickness, Disciplinaries.
- Proactively embed a culture of learning, development and evaluation.
- Delegate tasks and responsibilities. Ensure adequate staff levels at all times.
- Budget Management and promotion of cost control mechanisms within the service.
Other responsibilities than those described above may be required to be undertaken from time to time and will be expected to be performed to as long as it is within the capability and level of the position.
KEY CRITERIA
What we are looking for:
- Experience of working with and engaging with diverse groups of people from varying backgrounds and/or the ability to demonstrate transferrable skills
- Experience of Line Management and/or Leadership and Supervision
- IT Proficiency, ability to navigate and learn new case management systems
- Ability to work flexibly to meet service demands, including emergency on call services
What we would like, but not essential:
- Direct experience working in a Prison or other Criminal Justice environment, or similar
- Interested in and/or knowledge about prison education/family interventions
- Experience working in the voluntary sector and/or arts education
- Knowledge of and/orwillingness to familiarise with Children's Services policies and legislation and procedures for safeguarding children and vulnerable adults
