Job description
Why Work for us: Employee benefits (southampton.gov.uk)
The Brief Intervention Hub is an intensive family support team who work with complex and vulnerable families across the city. The Family Engagement Workers co-work cases with the allocated Social Worker and work intensively with families to try and mitigate the concerns identified at the point of referral.
The role includes developing positive working relationships with families in crisis. Family Engagement Workers work in partnership with families to increase their knowledge, insight and to facilitate change. The team are responsible for delivering bespoke interventions and need to be creative, flexible, and responsive to meet the needs of the families. Family Engagement Workers work closely with colleagues and have access to a Clinical Psychologist to explore complex cases and devise targeted intervention plans. Family Engagement Workers manage the competing demands of their caseload and contribute to multi-agency planning for children and families. They are accountable for their interventions and write reports which summarise work undertaken and make recommendations for further planning.
As part of the wider Safeguarding Service, the team model our systemic and restorative practice framework, creating a culture of high support and high challenge, keeping children at the heart of all that we do. Relationship-based and strengths-based practice is central to supporting families who are often experiencing a multitude of stress factors. Due the ‘brief’ nature of our interventions, the team employ a solution-focussed approach which involves prioritising areas to address and setting goals with the family to ensure transparency and monitoring of progress. Our ethos is that children are best placed with their families where it is safe to do so.
We are looking for Family Engagement Workers who are passionate about children and families, and someone who is flexible in their approach and confident to manage competing demands and complex situations. It’s imperative that Family Engagement Workers also practice self-care to ensure emotional resilience and prevent compassion fatigue.
