About us

Set within UCL’s Faculty of The Built Environment, The Bartlett School of Environment, Energy and Resources (BSEER) is comprised of four world-class Institutes, providing the expert knowledge collaborative research and teaching of UCL Energy Institute, UCL Institute for Environmental Design and Engineering, UCL Institute for Sustainable Heritage and UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. The role of the school is to facilitate the Institutes and help them establish themselves and grow, enabling them to focus on and develop their academic direction and strategies.

BSEER serves two principal functions. It provides a framework for administrative support to the four Institutes, combining expertise in, amongst other things, management and delivery of research proposals, multi-disciplinary projects and teaching programmes. The School also provides a collaborative and flexible environment for the four Institutes to share knowledge and resources. Staff have the opportunity to move between disciplines and engage with the School’s shared problem domains of Energy, Environment, Resources and Heritage.

BSEER allows staff to participate more easily in multidisciplinary research to solve real-world problems, both at The Bartlett and in the wider UCL community.

About the role

The post holder will be responsible for supporting the school’s day-to-day operations in our two buildings: Central House and 10 Montague Street. BSEER has adopted an agile approach and hybrid work culture. This has allowed the development of a new communal working area/social space and an innovative approach to agile desk booking. The post holder will undertake a wide range of tasks and will be expected to work independently supporting and advising staff and students on a variety of administrative matters. The post holder will be expected to liaise with UCL Estates to coordinate any maintenance issues and requests, cleaning and waste requirements, centrally bookable rooms, and security services.

The post holder will play a key role in supporting the office management of our new agile workspace. Overseeing the BSEER Common workspace and leading on Health and safety.

They will provide a first port of call to staff using the building and facilities and will be required to action day to day requests from staff regarding office maintenance and ordering of supplies.

The post holder will assume the role of Deputy Safety Officer advising on health and safety issues (in line with UCL Health & Safety management policies), lead on fire safety and act as the Senior fire evacuation marshal, first aid officer and print representative (for the ‘print @ UCL’ service). Relevant training will be provided in all these areas.
