BAM UK & Ireland are recruiting an experienced external communications manager with a proven track record for developing engaging social media content to help bring to life BAM’s vision for the future of construction. The role can be based out of any of our UK&I office locations with travel to BAM office and site locations required.

Our communications team’s vision is to win the hearts and minds of our clients and stakeholders by engaging them in our purpose and progress – demonstrating how across the UK & Ireland we are supporting BAM’s aims and ambition.

Communications within the BAM UK & Ireland division is a strategic function which drives awareness, understanding and engagement across our diverse audiences.

We use insight, knowledge and analysis of our market and our customers to engage them with our work and our products and services in the most impactful and effective way. We lead the development of our brand and use our expertise to tell inspiring stories to enhance our reputation, build relationships, engage our staff and demonstrate our impact.

Your mission

You will be a proven story-teller – someone who understands how to use a variety of content across a range of channels to reach the audiences important to BAM.

We need someone with a visual mindset who understands how to turn a story on paper into video, audio or animation, driving up views and increasing engagement on our digital channels.

You will enjoy the challenge of hunting down stories and have the tenacity and a determination to turn an idea into the finished product.

Skills & Experience

  • Proactively plan, maintain, and schedule the company’s social media calendar across utilised social media platforms including LinkedIn, Instagram and YouTube.
  • Develop social media strategies of current platforms with the aim increasing brand awareness and engagement. Consider how other channels can be utilised and developed.
  • Contribute creatively to the development of campaigns and promotional activities across our digital channels, including writing blogs, articles, posts, multi-media content, story-boarding and script writing.
  • Develop an understanding of the needs of our communications segment leads and visit sites to help gather quality content.
  • Work with senior leaders and subject experts to develop thought leadership content.
  • Understand analytics and the importance of capturing data which helps us to demonstrate the effectiveness of our work.
  • Provide external communications support to the business segments aligned to our UK & Ireland strategy.
  • Help to educate our business segments about best practise in our use of social media.
  • Work with our press and media manager to identify story opportunities and to write copy where required.
  • Work with consultants and suppliers as required to support delivery of strategy.
  • Contribute proactively to help the team increase BAM’s share of voice in UK & Ireland media (trade, regional and national).
  • Developing monthly reports on emerging social media trends. As well as staying up to date with the latest social media trends and digital technologies.
  • Setting measurable goals for campaigns, measuring, and showing the Return on Investment (ROI)
  • Participate in an on-call media relations rota, providing expert advice and managing media activity out of hours.
  • Experience of working in construction and engineering would be a distinct advantage and a genuine and demonstrable interest in the subject is essential.
  • You will be motivated by an interest in analytics and understand how to makes best use of content to drive those metrics and produce demonstrable improvements in BAM’s brand perception.

Who are we looking for?

Subject/Sector Expertise

  • Track record of being able to transform technical information into understandable and appealing copy for a wider audience of stakeholders and customers.
  • Ability to speak to senior leaders, understand a brief and to turn that into a deliverable communications plan.
  • A clear understanding of the purpose of corporate communications within a large organisation and the ability to persuade colleagues to follow your advice.
  • Understanding and demonstrate a continued interest in the evolution of social media trends and how to leverage them to benefit BAM.

Relationship and stakeholder management

  • Deputise for the Head of External Communications when required
  • Work closely with the segment communications managers to ensure content is surfaced and shared externally.
  • Develop peer/personal networks within and outside BAM to enhance own knowledge and expertise.

Role Specific Knowledge and Experience

  • Degree or professional qualification in journalism or communications or similar levels of equivalent experience
  • Experience of working in a communications role within a large and complex organisation, transforming technical information into engaging communications.
