Skills for Care has an exciting opportunity for an External Affairs and Policy Officer to join our External Affairs and Policy team, replacing someone who’s just earned a fantastic internal promotion.
If you’d like to help solve some of the biggest policy challenges facing the adult social care sector – enabling people to access the advice, care and support they need to live life to the fullest – this could be the job for you.
Reporting to the Head of External Affairs and Policy, this role helps to drive and deliver our policy, public affairs and other important external influencing and relationship-building work. You’ll also help keep the team running smoothly by taking the lead when it comes to coordinating the team’s work and organising meetings and events.
You will have exceptional organisation, communication and influencing skills, great judgement and lots of initiative – someone who can spot what needs to be done and come up with solutions without waiting to be told. You’ll need to be able to build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders alike.
Some experience of working in policy or public affairs is essential, and it would be ideal if you’ve already got some knowledge and experience of social care policy – but the most important thing is that you’re able to build this up quickly.
Apart from occasional travel for meetings and events, this is a home-based role – with all the flexibility that comes with that. We’re an organisation and team that really care about wellbeing and work/life balance, so it’s all about the work you do – not where you do it.
