Lorfords Contemporary craft traditionally and contemporary upholstered furniture in the Cotswolds. We are a small, friendly team working together in our modern Stroud workshop to produce luxury furniture for clients in the UK and internationally. We are committed to creating sustainable products using ethically sourced natural materials.
We specialise in upholstered furniture like sofas, chairs, footstools and headboards, using a combination of traditional and contemporary upholstery methods. We do not use foam for any of our furniture constructions so the successful candidate will have to demonstrate the ability to work with natural materials. Although we have a standard range of products, most of our work includes customisations or fully bespoke designs.
Job description
This is a fabulous opportunity for an upholsterer with an excellent knowledge of and experience of upholstery using a variety of natural materials. The successful candidate will have an unwavering commitment to exceptional finishing quality, an eye for every detail, and be highly motivated to exceed our customers’ expectations. It’s important that you have a great attitude and are willing to learn the way we manufacture the Lorfords product.
Key Upholstery skills
· A range of upholstery skills completing a piece from start to finish independently
· Leg staining
· Webbing
· Springing
· Experience in building up with natural materials such as rubberised hair, felt, latex etc
· Cutting, sewing and fabric pattern matching
· Various style upholstery skirts
· Headboards
· Covering standard range furniture from following existing patterns
· Covering bespoke pieces without pre – existing patterns or templates
A successful candidate will have:
- Excellent eye for detail
- Excellent finishing qualities
- High level of attention to detail
- Work well as part of a small team
- Complete pieces from start to finish independently
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Openminded and willing to adjust upholstery methods to the Lorfords standard
- The ability to follow business procedures for filing paperwork, providing timings and documenting work progress for the office
Advantageous but not required
· A range of traditionalUpholstery skills
· Experience with traditional furniture such as antique recovers
· Sewing machine operation
The successful candidate will be hired after a week’s paid trial is completed. During the trial, you will be asked to complete a small piece of furniture from start to finish so we can assess your skills and experience level. Compensation is subject to skills demonstrated during the weeks trial.

Salary: £35,000.00-£45,000.00 per year
