What is Splicing?
Fusion splicing is the act of joining two optical fibers end-to-end. The goal is to fuse the two fibers together in such a way that light passing through the fibers is not scattered or reflected back by the splice, and so that the splice and the region surrounding it are almost as strong as the intact fiber.
What are we looking for?
Due to growth, we are looking for an experienced Splicer to join our team. You will be deployed after the cable team to joint locations, either on a telegraph pole or in underground joint boxes. You will join together fibers using FNC’s (fibre node allocation). After all fibers are spliced as per the FNC’s you will ensure all light that is passing through the fibres are good quality by testing at the end point (CBT (connectorized block terminal).
What will you be doing?
· The introduction of ULW cable, COF600 and COF250.
· The installation and build of new TM joints.
· Splicing as per the FNC instructions at Aggregation Nodes and splitters.
· All port testing at the CBT’s as well as testing of the splitters using a power meter.
· Reading an understanding Microsoft Word/Excel/PDF based Job Packs.
· Reading and understanding BT Duct diagrams.
· Working in confined spaces.
· Photographing completed fibre nodes both inside the closure and externally, showing the position in the chamber or on the pole.
· Maintain a safe and secure work environment.
· Maintain project tracing information such as production sheets, time sheets, and customer required paperwork.
· Manage pole climbing, working at heights and handling Ladders.
· Working outdoors and in inclement weather conditions.
· Carrying out risk assessments prior to work.
· The installation of OH & UG CBT’S.
