Guideposts exist to provide services to meet individual needs so that each person has the opportunity to fulfil their aspirations and maximise their potential. We seek to achieve excellence in our work and lead the way in researching, delivering and disseminating good practice.
Complex Emotional Needs (CEN) is an umbrella term that captures a broad group of clients, who may have received a diagnosis of ‘Personality Disorder’ when using mental health services or have comparable needs.
According to national statistics:
- 5% of people in the UK have a personality disorder.
- 30-40% of people accessing secondary mental health services have a personality disorder.
- 40-50% of people in inpatient services will have a personality disorder.
Many people living with a personality disorder report traumatic personal histories and may demonstrate pervasive patterns of instability in emotion and behaviour regulation. In addition, individuals may experience identity confusion, episodes of dissociation, conflict in interpersonal relationships, self-injurious behaviours and suicidal thoughts. Research suggests that one in 10 people living with a personality disorder will go on to complete suicide.
The Guideposts CEN service is looking to recruit a Coach Practitioner with fresh ideas and ambition, to deliver psychologically informed coaching interventions over the phone to a defined client group in Gloucestershire.
You will need to:
- Be creative and confident in your skills and ability to manage risk in clients with a varying degree of complexity
- Take a keen interest in research and incorporate the research process alongside the client facing aspect of the role
- Display a conscientious and committed attitude to providing high quality interventions to people living with CEN
- Undertake responsibility for a client caseload, focusing on helping clients develop effective skills and strategies that can be used to navigate everyday life
- Provide support to clients during periods of crisis, enabling them to apply adaptive skills in the moment, to get through difficult situations.
In return we offer the post holder an opportunity to be part of a new service initiative for supporting people living with CEN. There is also scope for further knowledge and skill development through focused training. The post holder can expect to:
