BBC Radio Solent is looking for a dynamic and creative leader to be help shape it’s future and be at the heart of the modernisation of BBC Local across England. It’s a role for someone who loves audio, has a huge passion for radio and has a deep understanding of the BBC’s digital landscape. You’ll be ready to lead the station’s digital transformation and understand the potential for audio in digital spaces. You’ll need to be comfortable driving change and committed to improving workplace culture. You’ll know what make great radio and keeps people listening for longer. You’ll strive to make the station more relevant to diverse audiences, and increasing our reach with people who don’t listen to the radio.

Main ResponsibilitiesThe Executive Producer will work closely with the Executive Editor in a wide-ranging role which combines strategy with operational. You’ll be central to shaping, leading and implementing a coherent digital strategy to engage new audiences. You’ll oversee the sound of many aspects of the output, from line-managing some programmes teams, to overseeing elements of station sound and station campaigns. You’ll support staff learning and also introduce new faces, on and off-air. You’ll have a good ear for audio, know what compelling radio sounds like, and what can make us better. You’ll be key to ensuring the new Audio and News model champions audio content, and maximises digital opportunities for audio content. You will support the station management and have a focus on engaging and motivating the team, creating a positive culture. You will ensure that the station is aligned to the Local Radio strategy and be comfortable driving new ways of working and collaborating with other departments.
Are you the right candidate?You should be able to demonstrate strong leadership, have experience identifying, mentoring and developing new talent and have the ability to bring the best out in others. You’ll be flexible and collaborative in your approach. You will harness a culture of fairness, collaboration and inclusivity and have the ability to give honest, constructive feedback to get the most from your teams. You’ll have a strong track record in digital and linear production and will have worked on initiatives to attract new audiences. You’ll need strong editorial judgement and an instinct for ways to reach different groups within the local audience. You’ll think big and dream of ambitious and innovative ways to engage our communities. This is a role for someone who creates great audio, embraces digital and has a real understanding of the audience, and has the drive and ambition to make the station the number one in the market.
