Exams Assistant
The Student Programme Administration Exams Team are currently recruiting an Exams Assistant to join our bank of staff supporting the administration of examinations for the 2023 assessment period that runs from April - June.
This is an important position and the Exams Assistant will be expected to quickly develop a comprehensive understanding of Lancaster University’s examination guidelines and procedures. The Exams Assistant will deal with the collation and distribution of exam papers to invigilators assigned to each of the venues, and ensure main venue and Alternative Exam Arrangement scripts are available for departmental collection within agreed timeframes. They will provide the venue seating plans, additional materials (calculators, graph paper, etc.) and ensure invigilators are briefed about any additional requirements in advance of each exam.

Expected end date: 23rd June 2023

Location: On the Lancaster University campus
Hours per week: This is a full-time post with hours being worked in shifts with other colleagues from 8am – 7pm (Monday to Saturday, though Saturday’s will be kept to a minimum).
Previous experience within an educational establishment is desirable.
This position is not open to current Lancaster Undergraduate (UG) or Postgraduate Taught (PGT) students.
Job Description
Main Duties:
- Collation and distribution of exam papers to invigilators
- Collation and distribution of seating plans and additional materials to invigilators
- Collection and logging of exam scripts returned from exam venues
- Preparing exam scripts for departmental collection
- Liaising with colleagues across the University.
- Dealing with problems and queries in accordance with set guidelines.
- Apply examination policies and procedures in order to effectively manage each exam.
- Supporting the Exams Team to uphold the exam code of practice.
Person Specification
- Previous supervisory experience desirable.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent organisational skills and a meticulous attention to detail.
- Ability to learn quickly and be able to work to defined procedures without deviation.
- Able to remain calm in an at times pressured environment.
- A sympathetic approach to dealing with issues in a sensitive yet firm manner.
- Utmost reliability and punctuality.
- Excellent command of the English Language (spoken and read).
- Flexible approach to work.
