The University of South Wales is looking to recruit to their existing pool of Examination Invigilators who work across all campuses. The role reports to the Service Development Manager (Quality and Academic Services) and is a 0 hours contract, paid on an hourly rate.


Examination Invigilators are responsible for ensuring the examination is conducted according to the University’s regulations and quality standards. This includes responsibility for the management of the examination venue, candidate experience, ensuring the smooth running of the examination and ensuring all materials are returned to the Assessment Office, Academic Registry.

  • Employed as a full time member of staff at the University of South Wales
  • Employed as a part time member of staff, with the exception of hourly paid staff
  • Undertaking a full or part time taught course at the University of South Wales
  • Undertaking a franchised University of South Wales taught course

Activities:

Examination Invigilators are responsible for collection, delivery and return of examination papers, the management of the examination venue and the smooth running of the examinations.


Examination Invigilator conduct:

Your behaviour can have an adverse impact on student’s experience and performance so it is vital to be mindful of your impact. For example, talking between invigilators should be kept to a minimum with only essential communication taking place.

Examination Invigilators are not permitted to take a break during a duty, eat, drink or use any form of electronic device whilst undertaking their duties.


About you:

You will be an excellent communicator, motivated and enthusiastic. You will be a competent user of both laptops and desktop computers, to a basic level. Able to aid students follow instructions to log onto the device, access relevant documents and save their work. You will need to possess excellent attention to detail, able to interpret regulatory documents and able to react to situations as they arise; resolving them competently in line with University regulations and procedures.

Location of Work:

The University examinations are held on multiple campuses, Pontypridd (Treforest and Glyntaff), Newport and Cardiff and the role requires the ability to be able to work at any of the campuses. The main University examinations are held Mondays – Fridays, excluding bank holidays. Sessions usually begin at 09:00 (for a 09:30 exam start) and 13:30 (for a 14:00 exam start). There is a three week period in May, up to a two week period in August (Please see below for this year’s dates) and ad-hoc examinations throughout the year. Sessions are normally between 1 and 4 hours. The University is keen to employ Invigilators who can commit for the full duration of the May and August examination periods on an annual basis.

  • May 2023: Tuesday 2nd to Friday 19th
  • August 2023: Thursday 3rd to Friday 11th

All Invigilators, new or returning, will be required to attend a compulsory annual training session, at dates to be notified, prior to the start of the main examination period in May. Invigilators failing to attend one of these sessions will be deemed ineligible to undertake duties in the forthcoming year.
