The UK Space Agency (UKSA) is an executive agency of the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology (DSIT) and provides technical advice on the government’s space strategy, supporting the UK space sector to deliver the government’s vision.

Space is a part of everyday life. Satellites underpin our national economy, from agriculture and banking to aviation and shipping, and support our national security. Space science provides critical data to understand and address global challenges such as climate change, while missions to explore our solar system unite nations and advance humanity’s horizons. We support a thriving space sector in the UK, which generates an annual income of £16.5 billion and employs 47,000 people across the country.

Through our portfolio of programmesand projects, we encourage the development of national space capabilities and are an early-stage investor in space research and development. We also promote the UK space sector’s interests and achievements; make connections to join up industry and academia; and represent the UK in international space programmes. We have a powerful global voice, partnering with institutions across the world, including the European Space Agency.

The UK Space Conference is well established as the most important and influential event for space in the UK. This biennial event brings together the UK and international space community from across government, industry, and academia to exchange ideas, share plans, develop relationships, and seek inspiration to thrive in the new space age. The UK Space Conference 2023 will take place from 21st-23rd November 2023 at the ICC Belfast, Northern Ireland. The Conference is delivered for the UK Space Sector, by the UK Space Sector, but is supported by the UK Space Agency who contract manage the event’s delivery provider and chair the Programme and Organising Committees made up of representatives across industry, academia, and government.

As Event Delivery Lead your main responsibilities would be:

· Partner closely with all stakeholders, including Agency staff, the Programme Committee Chair and the Events Delivery Provider to ensure that the structure, theme and content of the Conference reflects the needs and views of industry, academia and government.

· Act as Chair and Secretariat for the Programme and Organising Committees, ensuring meetings are well managed and each committee delivers against their responsibilities set out above.

· Liaise effectively with other government departments and devolved administrations to ensure attendance of senior ministers and officials at the conference.

· Act as the UK Space Agency’s point of contact for all Conference related activity, including coordination of Agency staff involvement, in particular the education, skills, and outreach elements of the Conference.

· Contract manage the Conference’s Events Delivery provider.

· Budget manage the UK Space Agency’s sponsorship allocation.

· Ensure effective evaluation of the conference is conducted, alongside activities to close down the 2023 conference while beginning work for the 2025 conference.

Essential Criteria:

· Professional experience in events management, including delivery of large-scale conferences with 1000+ delegates.

· Demonstrable experience of managing multiple stakeholders.

· Experience of project/programme management, delivering outcomes on time and to a high standard.

· Experience of working in the UK Space Sector, or a demonstrable understanding of the sector.

· Available to deliver the conference in person Belfast from 21-23 November 2023.

Desirable Criteria:

· Experience of delivering events within or for the following industries/sectors: STEM/tech within public or private sector.

Skills:

· Excellent negotiation and team-working skills.

· Project management skills, including budget control.

· Flexible approach with good time-management skills.

· Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills.

· Ability to establish strong working relationships with diverse range of colleagues.

· Proven ability to deliver outcomes, including identifying risks and mitigating actions.

Any rates of payment quoted will reflect the gross rate per day for the assignment, and will be subject to appropriate taxes and statutory costs. As such the payment to the intermediary and your income resulting from this contract will be different.

Please be aware that this role can only be worked within the UK and not Overseas.

Salary: £450.00-£600.00 per day
