Role Purpose
The role is focused on contributing to drive the successful implementation of the HSBC ETF & Indexing product strategy and product positioning. The ETF & Indexing Strategist supports the ETF & Indexing Strategy team and generates compelling ideas for research and evaluation to broaden the HSBC ETF and index funds product range. The ETF Strategist will play a key role in the analysis and evolution of the ETF and index funds product offering and all the relevant governance processes related to the initial approval and on-going oversight of relevant indices.
The individual will work closely with investments and distribution with the role being focused on helping define the product strategy for existing and developing ETFs and index funds.
Building and managing automated solutions for index management and process management between the strategy and investment front office teams.
Principal Accountabilities
- Record and manage day to day index vendor relationship, ensuring timely responses to product queries and data requests.
- Build and own data solutions to provide the wider strategy team insightful data to build business cases for new product concepts
- Develop customised product analysis that articulates investment objectives, product features, performance attribution and relevant competitive advantages.
- Design tools to monitor market and competition data to be used across ETF and indexing teams.
- Building and managing automated solutions for index management and process management between the strategy and investment front office teams.
- Actively engage in the full lifecycle of the ETF and index funds development that covers idea origination, investment strategy design, index development and index reconciliation
- Proactively work with various teams across ETF and indexing generalist functions (product, legal, sales, marketing, portfolio management, IT, data management and others) within the firm to complete projects and identify synergies
Key Skills & Experience Required:
- At least 5 years investment management
- In depth understanding of passive markets and trends
- Experience in the indexing industry, investment, sell-side, financial analysis and/or ETF or index funds specialised related areas
- Strong commercial acumen
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong sales presentation skills
- Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to develop investment strategy with a good degree of autonomy
- Experience with Index providers, index design or Passive asset management
- Solution oriented attitude, hardworking, motivated and can-do attitude
