Job Title:Volunteer, ESOL Classes Oxford
Job Description:
The Afghanistan and Central Asian Association is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic student volunteers to support our ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) classes. As a volunteer, you will have the opportunity to contribute to our mission of providing English language instruction to local community members aged 16+ and newly-arrived refugees. You will work alongside experienced teachers,and project manager , helping to create a positive and inclusive learning environment.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist in class activities: Collaborate with ESOL Project Manager in planning and conducting classroom activities, exercises, and group discussions that promote English language learning. Support students in improving their reading, writing, and speaking skills.
2. Provide one-on-one support: Offer individual assistance to students who require extra help or have specific language learning needs. Provide guidance, clarification, and encouragement to help them overcome challenges and improve their language proficiency.
3. Facilitate group work: Support students in group activities, ensuring equal participation and fostering a collaborative learning environment. Encourage teamwork and peer-to-peer interaction to enhance language practice and cultural exchange.
4. Help with classroom management: Assist teachers and project manager in maintaining a positive and orderly classroom environment. Monitor student behavior, encourage respectful interactions, and reinforce class rules and expectations.
5. Support administrative tasks: Assist with administrative duties, such as taking attendance, organizing learning materials, and preparing classroom resources. Help maintain accurate records and documentation related to student progress and achievements.
6. Contribute to a welcoming environment: Foster a friendly and inclusive atmosphere within the classroom. Build relationships with students and create a supportive environment where individuals from diverse backgrounds feel valued and comfortable.
7.Training and meetings: Engage in regular meetings with teachers,project manager and other volunteers to share experiences, discuss challenges, and learn new strategies for supporting language learners.
8. Adhere to safety guidelines: Follow the organization's safety protocols and guidelines to ensure the well-being of students, volunteers, and staff members. Report any concerns or incidents to the designated personnel promptly.
Qualifications:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Passion for helping others and making a positive impact in the community.
- Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Interest in language teaching, education, or community development (prior experience is a plus).
- Reliable, punctual, and able to commit to a consistent schedule.
Working Conditions:
- Volunteer hours will align with the ESOL class schedule,i.e twice a week for two hours over 4 months.
- Orientation, training, and ongoing support will be provided.
Job Types: Part-time, Internship
Contract length: 4 months
Part-time hours: 4 per week
Pay: Up to £6.00 per day
Schedule:
