Job description
Escape is the largest escape room brand within the UK. This role is based across our three sites in Edinburgh, under the Escape (Edinburgh), Can You Escape? (Edinburgh), and Game of Throwing (Edinburgh) brands. Escape is expanding rapidly and we are looking for Games Masters to work in part-time or full-time roles. We also host axe throwing and can provide full training on this for those who have no experience.
Candidates must consistently be available on Saturdays and Sundays, with weekday work also regularly available.
The role will consist of looking after groups of customers from the minute they enter until the minute they depart. It is a varied role with a number of responsibilities.
- A real, warm, friendly welcome including a pregame group briefing.
- Cover all health and safety aspects and setting the scene for the escape game or throwing session.
- Managing the games and lanes to ensure that the participants gain maximum enjoyment from the experience.
- Team debrief, answer questions and most importantly get a team photo.
- Reset the escape games ensuring no mistakes.
- General cleaning.
- Easy maintenance of some aspects of the rooms.
- Deal with phone and email enquiries, maintain site admin, and interact on social media.
- Undertake training when needed.
What are we looking for?
Customer service skills – You need to be a confident individual who is comfortable speaking in front of groups of up to 24 and holding their attention. You must deliver excellent customer service to all teams.
Autonomy - You must be able to work independently as you will be responsible for the entire site when on occasional weekday solo shifts. You will be trustworthy and will communicate with the team effectively through Slack and Facebook Messenger Apps.
Initiative - You don’t need a great knowledge of puzzles and escape rooms - what you do need though is the ability to think on your feet. Things don’t always go to plan and sometimes you need to come up with solutions quickly.
Attention to detail – This will help you track the progress of the games in play accurately. It is particularly important when setting the rooms up for the next game and ensuring there are no mistakes.
Flexibility – We are potentially open from early morning to midnight 7 days a week depending on our customers’ requests. You need to be available to work evenings and weekends.
Computer skills – Nothing too complicated but you need to be comfortable using Excel, Powerpoint, our booking system, email and social media.
You must be 18+ because we will require you to work alone on occasion.
How to apply
- Please send your CV through Indeed and include a cover letter saying why you think you would be suitable for the role and answering the following question: what is your favourite game (of any kind) and why? (The only wrong answer...is not answering!)
- Any applications which fail to include an appropriate cover letter will be disregarded.
Good luck!
