The elections in May 2021 heralded the start of Cornwall Council’s fourth administration which, building on the strong foundations laid down since 2009, has a clear focus on improving the quality of life for One and All as we aim to ‘bounce forwards’ from the pandemic.
As the manager of a small team of officers, the post holder will be the driving force in strengthening the Council’s approach to equality and diversity issues and provide a pivotal role in working with partners to create a fairer, more inclusive Cornwall.
You will be the lead professional advisor on equality and diversity issues, responsible for providing advice, guidance, policy and documentation that actively supports the Council to achieve compliance against employment priorities, targets, national and legislative frameworks, with the ultimate aim of delivering positive equality, diversity and inclusion impacts as one aspect of our’ triple-bottom line’ which also includes positive environmental impacts and financial sustainability.
The postholder will be responsible for taking forward the Council’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy (EDI) and ensuring the Council responds to the recommendations of the Local Government Association EDI Peer Review undertaken in March 2023, plus working with colleagues at a regional and national level in order to share best practice, benchmarking and identify areas for improvement.
There is also a requirement to report to partners, through the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Leadership Board and Executive Group, on equality, diversity and inclusion matters, especially the impact of the pandemic and the cost-of-living crisis on protected characteristics, where necessary raising issues of concern and potential actions, to support equality of recovery and ensure no one in Cornwall gets left behind.
