Outline of the role and project
We are looking for an Environmental Advisor to join The Strategic Pipeline Alliance team. This is one of the largest infrastructure projects in the UK and it will be achieved by the engineering, integration, and assembly of a series of interconnected pipelines which will enable our client to move water from areas with surplus water, to areas which are in deficit, making the east of England resilient to drought and securing water supplies for future generations. The role of Project Environmental Advisor will provide advice, guidance and coaching to the Project Team from construction to handover. This will require the completion of inspections, advisory reports, incident investigations, feedback, and briefings to sites. The role will be site based Head Office - 3rd Floor, Worldwide House, Thorpe Wood, Peterborough, PE3 6SB. The ideal candidate will audit and report on performance, whilst also being able to work as an advisor.
As an Environmental Advisor you will:
- Act as the primary environmental advisor on the project.
- Lead / support on environmental incident investigation
- Ensure that all personnel are aware of their statutory environmental duties and responsibilities, and to provide advice as and when required.
- Provide advice and guidance to the Project Teams from construction to handover
- Undertake site inspections, advisory visits, engagement tours to ensure site compliance
- Assist and review the development of the Construction Environmental Management Plan
- Collate and gather environmental data for contract Key Performance indicators to report to the client and the Farrans SHE team.
- Able to demonstrate high standards of health, safety, environment, and wellbeing making sure these are followed and upheld across the team in line with the principles of LIFE (Living in an Injury Free Environment)

Due to locations of some of our projects, it may mean that you are required to live away from home. We are here to make this as seamless as possible, therefore we cover all accommodation costs, provide you with a daily allowance and cover travel costs (as set out in our living away from home policy)
Your required Skills and Experience
- Ideally 2-3 years Environmental experience ideally within a construction / engineering background
- You will be expected to have an environmental / ecological degree or similar
- Ideally a member of IEMA or similar environmental body.
- Ability to engage with site staff, the client, and environmental regulators.
- Good IT skills to develop and write reports
- Effective communicator with presentation and report writing skills
- Ability to liaise with and influence staff/operatives at all levels
- Analytical skills to interpret detailed information and regulations
