Job description
We are the Environment Agency. We work with businesses and communities to protect and improve the environment, for people and wildlife. Acting to reduce the impacts of climate change is at the heart of everything we do and the need for our work is becoming ever more important.
We’re offering exciting opportunities this Summer for those interested in pursuing a career in environmental protection to gain valuable experience and developing both personally and professionally. Our internship programme gives you a comprehensive introduction to everything the Environment Agency does, with the opportunity to specialise in a particular department that aligns with your career ambitions. The placements are designed to help you gain experience and valuable skills in areas such as Project Management, Data Analysis, Regulation and Conservation.
We have a range of talented and passionate teams in the West Midlands that will support you in getting hands on experience in fields that actively tackle the impacts of climate change.

Our Academic Internships run for 12 weeks starting on 3rd July until 22nd September 2023.
Please note this position is not suitable for anyone in full time employment or study during the 12 week placement period as they will require working during core office hours.

The team
The West Midland Environment Agency Teams protect and improve the environment to:
- reduce the risks to people and properties from flooding
- help businesses and communities adapt to climate change
- reduce pressures on biodiversity
- help businesses to make sure they don’t harm the environment through pollution or taking too much water
- issue licences and permits, and take action against people who don’t take their environmental responsibilities seriously.
Experience/skills required
We're looking for applicants who are passionate about protecting the environment are looking to pursue long term careers in the fields of environmental health. You’ll be comfortable learning from others, but also sharing your own knowledge, ideas, and opinions.
To be eligible to apply you’ll need to be in the 2nd or 3rd year of an undergraduate degree, or in post-graduate study.
