Job description

Are you an Environmental Health (or similar) professional interested in making a difference? Are you self-motivated and have an adaptable, flexible approach and keen to develop? If YES then we have an exciting opportunity to join our HMO Enforcement and Private Sector Safety Teams.

Oxford City Council is the first Local Authority to gain both city wide Additional HMO licensing and Selective Licensing, with the Additional HMO licensing scheme in place for over 10 years and Selective Licensing from 01 September 2022. We are now looking for dynamic and enthusiastic Environmental Health Officers to join the HMO Enforcement and Private Sector Safety Teams which are responsible for enforcing and improving conditions in all private rented homes. The teams also have responsibility for a range of public health functions and include planning enforcement and empty homes officers. This role will be required to work across both teams. We offer a career graded scheme to support persons who are not yet fully qualified as Environmental Health Officers.

Already well known for its proactive approach to enforcing conditions in the private rented sector, our team use their full range of skills in effective and innovative ways to secure improvements for residents in privately rented homes.

The role is demanding and so will require you to take personal responsibility for a wide and varied caseload and perform with a high level of professionalism and in return we will give you the opportunity to be part of a varied role that will include partnering other services, carrying out investigations and carrying out property inspections whilst being given the opportunity to develop working alongside our experienced officers and management teams.

Interested to find out more? If so continue to read below on how you can apply. Please ensure you advise what level role you are applying for – SG6 or SG7.
