Job introduction

We have an exciting opportunity for you to become an Environmental Enforcement Officer and to work within our friendly team at Cityclean. Working in Environmental Enforcement, you will be working as part of a proactive team who issue fines for environmental offences, such as littering and fly-tipping, graffiti, dog fouling, as well as community engagement and education to members of the public and businesses.

About the role

Do you have a good knowledge of enforcement work?

Do you have experience of working with local communities?

Are you great with people?

If so, then we would like to hear from you.

You will be part of a proactive team who maintain and improve the city’s Environmental Enforcement framework, following current government legislation. Brighton and Hove City Council are committed to providing an effective service, ensuring that waste is disposed of responsibly. Environmental Enforcement Officers are to help implement our education and fixed penalty notice service, assisting with any waste management under Environmental Enforcement.

To receive and investigate service requests related to environmental offences such as litter, spitting, urinating, defecating, fly-tipping, fly posting, unauthorised flyering, commercial waste offences and non-compliance of Duty of Care Certificates, graffiti, dog fouling or dog related issues and household waste issues and if necessary, issue Fixed Penalty Notices in line with the relevant legislation.

Your main duties and responsibilities will include;

Carrying out foot patrols across the city and acting on any Environmental Crimes you come across.

Completing and taking witness statements in preparation for prosecution and attending court.

Serving Fixed Penalty Notices, Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices to those responsible of committing an offence. This includes both members of the public and businesses.

Working closely and sharing intelligence with other departments within Brighton and Hove City Council, other Local Authorities and key partner organisations such as the Police.

Full training and uniform will be provided.

Interview date: TBC

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview.
