Job description
The primary responsibilities of an Academic English Instructor are to teach courses, develop lesson plans, and integrate best practices for content learning with a diverse population to ensure competence in English as a second language. The Academic English Instructor will teach non-credit Academic English courses in addition to completing administrative tasks and adhering to course-specific guidelines that complement normal instructional course responsibilities assigned by the university.
Responsibilities:
Teach Academic English course(s) on a part-time basis. Assess, grade and report on students enrolled in assigned Academic English courses. Maintain daily attendance records
Communicate students’ academic performance on a regular basis including Early Alert and formal mid-term and final evaluation/progress reports
Attend orientation, semester meetings and end of the semester meetings
Requirements/Qualifications:
Master’s degree in TESOL or related area
Strong computer skills including MS Office, Outlook and Canvas
Knowledge of successful strategies for classroom management, especially in terms of linguistically and culturally diverse students
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Creativity and flexibility in the classroom are expected
Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team
Comfortable teaching a range of ESL levels, from beginner to graduate-level advanced, with flexibility in accommodating students of different backgrounds
Experience teaching Business English and/or English for Health Care professionals a plus.
