Job Title: English as an Additional Language (EAL) Teacher (peripatetic)
Contract: Part time, fixed term for one year, hourly paid (approx.10 hrs per week, depending on student demand, Mon – Fri during the mornings)

The School is looking to appoint a EAL Teacher to join our friendly and supportive Learning Support team, working part time to teach our overseas students English using relevant and up-to-date resources and to prepare them for various English qualifications where necessary.
Main duties
Supporting the pupil:
To increase understanding of the specific needs of the students to be supported.
To encourage and assist students to learn effectively.
To tailor students’ learning to their individual needs, building on their current knowledge and skills.
To develop appropriate resources to support students.
To liaise with appropriate staff to ensure the overall welfare of the student.
To enable students to integrate into the life and culture of the school and environment.
Supporting the Teacher:
To provide regular feedback about the students to subject teachers and to the Head of Learning Support.
To collaborate with subject teachers to define appropriate activities for the students in relation to the curriculum.
Supporting the School:
To contribute to reviews of students’ progress, as appropriate.
To attend relevant staff meetings or in-service training.
To be aware of school procedures.
To be aware of confidential issues linked to home/student/teacher/school-work and to keep confidences appropriately.
To uphold the school ethos and reinforce school/class rules as and when necessary.
To observe the general codes of conduct expected of all staff during school hours.
To undertake any reasonable additional duties at the request of the Principal.
Person Specification
Cambridge CELTA/ DELTA (or an equivalent professional teaching qualification)
Degree level qualification and high academic achievement
Experience of planning and teaching secondary curriculum
Experience of teaching English as an Additional Language to a high standard
Ability to incorporate authentic and up to date source materials into engaging lessons
The ability to promote good progress and outcomes by pupils
The ability to manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment
ICT competent
Positive values and attitudes
Ability to empathise with EAL students and provide pastoral support where necessary
Ability to liaise with subject/ vocational staff to suggest strategies to support EAL students in the classroom/ vocational learning environment
Highly effective communication skills with both children and adults, including parents and carers
Highly effective time management skills
