Main Purpose
- As directed by the Major Possession Planning Manager compile and distribute, to required timescales, effective and efficient capacity studies for engineering work on Network Rail Wessex Route and other areas in which South Western Railway operate. This is to be done in accordance with resource availability, operational, commercial and other business requirements for all operators involved.
- As directed by the Major Possessions Planning Manager compile and distribute to required timescales effective and efficient engineering work service specifications with timetables and bus arrangements.
- Working with other internal and external stakeholders impacted by engineering work
- When undertaking capacity studies, develop plans which take due cognisance of other spheres of planning activity liaising as necessary with corresponding team members to produce the optimum overall plan.
- Take part in reviews of engineering work plans to inform future occurrences of similar possessions and train plans
- Assist Engineering Planning Team in periods without capacity study requirement with production of engineering work summaries.
- Assist with other activities within the Train Planning team as required by the Train Planning Manager.
- Act as a positive role model at all times in matters relating to Health and Safety.
Principal Accountabilities
- Deliver capacity studies , co-ordinate with Network Rail other TOCs and FOCs as necessary to agreed timescales reflecting Engineering Access Statement, Draft & Confirmed Period Possession Plans, Informed Traveller and other industry and company operational production process deadlines as directed by the Major Possessions Planning Manager
- Compile capacity studies to the agreed level of detail in accordance with commercial specifications and the Capacity Study Matrix, ensuring that laid down best practice quality standards and timescales are met optimising the balance between customer service, productivity, resource availability and good working practices.
- Obtaining key requirements from other operators and Network Rail
- Identify and advise requirements for any unusual movements in the capacity studies.
- Tracking capacity studies through from request to delivery, submission, sign-off to forming part of the Engineering Specification sent to the South Western Railway STP Team
- Understanding of the Decision Criteria set out in Network Code Part D
- Ensure the effective and correct provision of rolling stock and train crew is considered in capacity studies
Minimum Requirements
- Educated to GCSE level or equivalent.
- As appropriate to the duties being undertaken a good knowledge of:
- engineering access planning process
- timetabling techniques
- rolling stock diagramming and associated operational requirements
- traincrew diagramming and the associated conditions of drivers and guards
- Understand the nature off all subsections of train planning, how they interlink and impact on each other.
- A good knowledge of South Western Railway Geography
Working Pattern
Working an average of 37 hours per week over 5 days, Monday to Friday – office Hours
