Why does the job exist?
This position will perform independent field inspections, project documentation, assure quality of material and/or conduct field materials sampling and testing as needed and/or office work throughout the District.
How does it get done?
Reviewing, analyzing and verifying project information including cost estimates, project construction quantities, and as-built roadway plans.
Who are the customers?
The traveling public.
Ideal Candidate
- In nuclear densometer, concrete field testing, aggregate and traffic control;
- Calculating material quantities for construction projects, highway and bridge construction;
- Utilizing the Department of Transportation Construction Manual;
- Interpreting construction plans and drawings; and
- Technical Training Certification Program (TTCP) certified.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and two (2) years of relevant experience. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Employment requires successful completion of a pre-employment physical exam and is conditional pending results. Business reference check and driver's license verification are required and employment is conditional pending results. May require Technician Training Certification Program (TTCP) certificates within one year of hire to include but not limited to; Nuclear Densometer, Concrete Field and Lab Testing, Aggregate, Soils, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA), Traffic Control and SWPPP.
Working Conditions
Work is performed primarily in the field in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, wind, rain and snow. May include exposure to: sunlight, dust, pollen, chemicals, rough/rugged terrain, insects and reptiles, noxious plants and infected trash; moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, toxic fumes/chemicals and/or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, high speed/high volume traffic and loud noises, and confined spaces; falls and bruises, considerable physical strain; standing for extended periods of time doing traffic control or walking long distances. Hand dexterity required for some duties; numerous specific vision abilities to include: close, distance, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus; some climbing, reaching, kneeling and crawling to perform job duties; ability to lift up to 50 pounds. Work may also be performed in an office setting with exposure to visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage to include working with faxes, copiers and printers. May be required to work irregular hours and is subject to call outs for emergencies. Willingness to accept change of geographical assignments. Interaction with the public by phone and in person. Frequent temporary assignments that require travel and extended overnight stays to include weekends, holidays, and overtime are required.
