Engineering Technician – Airfield

The Engineering team deliver what matters. They protect, maintain, and repair our infrastructure. From the electricity that powers this place. Giant plant rooms that heat and cool the airport. To the specialist equipment on the airfield too!
What is the role?
The role of an Airfield Engineering technician is key to keeping the airport operation running, in order to enable Gatwick to achieve and exceed its strategic priorities and by being proactive in minimising downtime of assets including Aeronautical Ground Lighting, fixed electrical ground power, passenger boarding bridges and stand entry guidance systems.
What will you do?
- Undertake planned preventative/reactive/corrective maintenance, mindful of asset performance and operational requirements. Feedback requirements, or carry out work, required to repair out-of-service assets or improve poor performing ones.
- Undertake tasks requiring in-depth technical competence in electrical/mechanical/control system engineering or other tasks falling within other engineering disciplines which you have skills for or have been trained in.
- Use GAL I.T. – Work Management Systems (e.g., ULTIMO) as required. Receive & close work orders, enter data accurately and use system data to drive individual and asset performance.
- Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
- Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of those around you as part of your legal responsibility such as the wearing of PPE, completing mandatory training and reporting H&S accidents, incidents and near misses.
Do you have what we're looking for?
- Successful completion of relevant apprenticeship or equivalent scheme
- City and Guilds/ ONC/HNC Electrical/Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 18th Edition Certified
- Gatwick Electrical Safety Rules L.V skilled person
- Excellent knowledge of any relevant statutory/regulatory requirements for the role.
- Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and ULTIMO
- The post holder will be required to hold a full driving license and airside driving permit.
