Your new role
In this exciting role, initially on a 18 month Fixed Term Contract basis, you will be based out of UK Manufacturing site in Newton Aycliffe, County Durham.
As on overview you will be responsible for:
- Establishing engineering planning processes and templates in order for UK engineering to identify workload issues.
- Ensuring every project/bid has a robust plan/programme, which is updated weekly and used to inform efficient delivery
- Support the Engineering Planning Team through the development of Project Engineering P6 Processes, templates and Programmes for Bids and Projects.
- Develop and maintain standard planning process, governance for utilisation by project teams and ensure it is fully understood and integrated into planning.
- Create an agreed Engineering Resource and Roles library in Primavera.
- Work with PMO in harmonising a standardised WBS into the engineering schedules.
- Develop reporting and KPIs to support the resource forecasting, efficient delivery and tracking of Project Engineering Team performance; including appropriate look a heads such as Workload forecasting.
- Update Engineering P6 Programme to inform workload issues, progress tracking and future planning.
- Work closely with the Project Management Office (PMO) & the Rolling Stock (RS) Planning team in Italy to ensure planning integrates with the PMO and the overall RS Planning team.
- Support what if scenario planning when required.
- Baseline and track change in the programme.
- Lead the quantification of risk in terms of the impact on delivery timescales, to ensure sufficient contingency or mitigations can be determined for workload and delivery by senior management.
- Accountable for the accuracy and timely communication of the plans, lookaheads, trackers and KPI reports.
- Accountable for quality of planning guidelines and procedures.
About you
You will have a tactical impact on the Product Engineering Team and overall projects delivery, directly supporting the efficiency and effectiveness of projects delivery.
- You will be expected to solve complex planning optimisation problems, identifying how to achieve the best results with the minimum and/or constrained resources.
- You will also be expected to understand the reporting and data needs of the other planning functions and develop solutions that allow these to be fulfilled.
- You will have to communicate effectively with staff within the team, the PMO, the RS Planning Team and the wider project team.
- You need to be comfortable constructively challenging Engineers and Managers to ensure plans are neither too optimistic nor pessimistic.
- You will have a proven ability to work successfully in a multi-disciplinary engineering/technical team.
- You will be able to demonstrate excellent communication and negotiation skills.
- You will be a self-starter with the ability to develop strong, constructive and focused relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all organisation levels.
- You will be an excellent communicator - verbally and written.
- You will show good attention to detail.
- You will be able to work under pressure.
- You will be required to travel to other Hitachi sites/workbases, both in the UK, and internationally.
Qualifications/Skills
Essential:
- NVQ level 4/HND/HNC.
- IT and Primavera qualifications.
- Demonstrable skills in the use of Primavera P6 and Microsoft planning products using Critical Path Analysis in a technical environment.
- Excellent IT skills.
Desirable:
- Degree
- Experience in railway/rolling stock manufacturing planning
