Did you know there are two bakery sites in Bolton (Bolton & Variety), a distribution hub, a newly built Innovation Centre, Test Bakery, and our Head Office? We have approximately 480 colleagues working across Bolton and Variety manufacturing and distribution.

We produce 1.5 million units per week, across 5 automated lines that bake our delicious fresh bread, crumpets, bagels, morning goods and muffins which is delivered daily to our customers across the UK.

Essential Ingredients

  • Possess an Engineering Qualification such as HND, HNC, BTECH or equivalent
  • Able to deploy and execute a reliability centred asset care strategy
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities to drive quality, cost, reliability and safety performance.
  • Delivery of solid cost and inventory controls
  • Experience of PUWER, LOLER, COSHH & HACCP with a working knowledge of H&S audits and processes
  • An understanding of PLC
  • Commercial skills with an understanding of the cost base to improve profitability and to develop and monitor the engineering budget.
  • Strategic thinking skills developing strategy and long-term plans and objectives, able to re-designs processes & ways of working to meet long-term objectives.Management & leadership skills building an exciting vision that inspires others to perform using a range of management styles, able to deal effectively with performance issues and can create and build a sense of trust in the team
The Recipe

Working alongside the General Manager as part of our Senior Leadership team and working in close collaboration with our national manufacturing excellence function. You’ll engage, motivate and lead a skilled team of engineers, utilising root cause analysis to identify and prioritize corrective, preventative, predictive and mitigating actions.


We have a continuous improvement culture and keeping our colleagues and customers safe is our number one priority. As the Engineering Manager, you’ll also be the duty holder for Health and Safety on site working alongside our HSE Manager.


As Engineering Manager you’ll work closely with site teams to drive improvement through efficient and innovative ways of working. Establishing strong relationships with our central engineering and manufacturing excellence teams, you’ll value cross functional working and the opportunity to be involved in national projects.


We understand the importance of condition-based monitoring, ensuring our machines have the minimum levels of intrusion whilst achieving the required reliability. Our engineers are one step ahead of any possible breakdown.
