Job description
Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S) are seeking an Engineering Manager who will report to the Chief Engineer, for their site in Wiltshire to join their team and work with JAMES.
JAMES is the Joint Asset Management Engineering Solution. It is the Software Application / Database that manages the whole of the Defence’s Land Military Equipment. From a single Rifle to the fleet of Challenger 2 Main Battle Tanks, everything is itemised and managed on JAMES.
With over 1.7m equipment assets, JAMES has approximately 36,000 users and assists with cost capture for an annual Land Equipment support spend of circa £500m.
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, you will be a key stakeholder in Customer Requirements and Industry Solutions. You will assist the team, ensuring sustainability, safety, availability and enhancement of Defence capability.
As part of a small multi-disciplined team, your permanent duty station will be Warminster in Wiltshire. You will become a Subject Matter Expert (SME) managing changes and modifications to JAMES.
A background in IT / Databases will be advantageous as well as military equipment knowledge.
We operate Hybrid Working but there may be some attendance to the stated site for this position.
This site is commutable from Andover, Bath, Bristol, Newbury, Salisbury, Shaftesbury, Southampton, Swindon, Winchester and Yeovil. Other locations in Wiltshire, Hampshire, Berkshire and Somerset are commutable.

Responsibilities
The responsibilities of these posts will include, but not be limited to, the following:
· Working for the Chief Engineer you will be part of a team of military and civilian personnel. You will be expected to deputise for the Chief Engineer on occasion.
· You will assist with delivery of all engineering aspects within your area of responsibility as defined in the assignment specification or objectives including managing the acquisition safety aspects and equipment Through Life Support (TLS).
· You will be expected to provide expert advice and guidance to stakeholders based upon your own engineering knowledge to solve complex technical problems and identify application risks.
· Advise and assist with the implementation of any governance and assurance policies and procedures, to ensure the ‘safe & professional’ status of the area led.
· Expected to Interface with Defence and Industry as the intelligent customer both in a scrutiny role and supporting the identification of areas of improvement and development of the application.
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
· Relevant Level 4 Engineering (HNC or higher) qualification or equivalent experience
· Experience of providing technical advice and leading the delivery of successful engineering outcomes
