Job description
- To be located in the Billingham office, the job will initially be to carry out the usual office duties, filing, post sorting, answer telephone calls etc thus contributing to the efficient running of a busy drawing office.
- After the first few weeks, development of skills
- Knowledge of drawing procedures & techniques pertinent to structural steelwork will be imparted over the course of the training period.
- In time, the applicant will be expected to produce general arrangements and fabrication detail drawings for parts of various contracts (as mentioned above) using a dedicated 3D modelling package (principally Tekla Structures).
- The company may also require the trainee to attend college / university on a day release course to supplement the technical experience gained in the office with the aim ultimately of a HNC in civil engineering, providing the correct progress in all areas is demonstrated.
- The successful applicant will be hard working, pleasant, helpful, show good communicational skills & initiative, able to work comfortably with colleagues and be a reliable timekeeper. Good grades for GCSE / A levels in mathematics, English, science, IT & graphics are preferred, with knowledge of Autocad or similar an advantage.
- Following assessment of CV’s, suitable candidates will be invited to our Billingham office for a short job specific aptitude test & interview to determine suitability for the post.
- Remuneration for this position will be discussed at the interview stage for appropriate candidates.
Weekly working hours will be 37.5; 33 days holiday per annum Opportunity to ultimately join the Company pension scheme.

The current National Minimum Wage for an apprentice is £4.81 an hour. This rate applies to apprentices under 19 and those aged 19 or over who are in their first year.
Apprentices must be paid at least the minimum wage rate for their age if they are aged 19 or over and have completed their first year.
The minimum wage rates are £6.83 an hour for 18-20 year olds, £9.18 for anyone aged 21-22 and £9.50 for anyone aged 23 and over.
