Job description

Working together. Building your future

A JCB Level 6 Engineering Degree Apprenticeship is an opportunity to learn and qualify with a true standard-bearer in British Engineering. A company whose machines have brought major change to agriculture and construction that, behind the scenes, have a real impact on the way we live. In the works right now is a pioneering new hydrogen engine that will help drive us towards a zero-carbon future. Innovation is vital here—and that’s exactly what makes Engineering at JCB so exciting. Not to mention worthwhile.

What is an Engineering Degree Apprenticeship like?

Over 4-5 years, our Degree Apprenticeship will equip you for a lifetime of boundary-pushing engineering work in a career that could take you to any of the four continents in which we operate—well, we’ve always been about earth-movers.

We’ll show you in depth how we turn out quality new JCB products to time and budget constraints. You’ll see how we come up with initial ideas, move them through the design stage, build, test and, ultimately, arrive at the finished article.

Following our product journey will take you through functions including Product Design, Research, Test & Development and Technical Services, where you’ll develop essential engineering skills. You’ll learn fabrication techniques and put them into practice by producing components, as well as models, using Computer Aided Design (CAD) systems. Real, technical skills learned in an accessible, practical way designed to get you thinking creatively about all our processes.

Our business is always innovating and our Engineering professionals will be in your corner throughout the programme, coaching you in just how we do it. There are no barriers to the top professionals here—you’ll have direct, one-on-one access to all their expertise. Even though we’re global, we’re still a family business and, with the close support you’ll receive, it’ll really feel like it. It’s what makes our Degree Apprenticeship such a special learning experience.

What will I get out of an Engineering Degree Apprenticeship?

Completing the programme will earn you a Bachelor's Engineering Degree—but, not only that, you’re also guaranteed a role with a global innovator that the world is always watching. You don’t get that when you take the conventional university route.

Bit by bit, you’ll learn what the JCB “culture of continuous improvement” means in practice and, by the end of the programme, you’ll be one of the people driving that culture with the work you do.

There’s also the range of benefits that come with being a JCB employee, including:

  • World-class training facilities
  • Competitive, full-time salary
  • 33 days’ annual holiday (increasing with service)
  • Discounted healthcare
  • Access to sports facilities (including healthy living centre)
  • Competitive pension scheme
  • Global career development scope
  • Support with further training and qualifications

How do I qualify for a JCB Apprenticeship?

3 A levels at a minimum of grade C and above, including Maths & a relevant scientific/ technical subject (2 AS level passes are considered equivalent to one A level)

Or

A qualification equivalent to any of the above or a combination, which must include A-Level equivalent Mathematics

In addition to the above A-Levels, you will also need to have the following:

You’ll need at least four GCSEs or equivalent, including Maths, English and a relevant scientific/technical subject at C/4 or above. Just as importantly, you should be looking for a career that will really allow you to make your mark in a field you’re committed to.

As much as we’ve always been about innovating towards a better, smarter future here, we very much believe in good old-fashioned hard work. We’re always looking for people who give it their all and aren’t scared to fail as they learn new skills and who will always pick themselves up and try again. That’s the story of our success here at JCB—and it’ll be yours too.

JCB is an equal opportunities employer. We value diversity and welcome and encourage applications from candidates from all backgrounds.

Recruitment agencies: JCB does not accept any speculative approaches to present candidates for advertised vacancies.
